NEPTUNE'S SPECIAL OLYMPICS CLUB-TRUSfEES ANNUAL REPORT The Trustee5 Of Neptune's Special Olympics aub present their annual report and accounts for the vear endin8 31st Au8USt 2016 and confimi that they had regard to the Commission's Public benefit requirement statutory guidance to ensure ihat the actNlties have helped to ochieve the charivs purpose5 and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries. The aims of our club include . improved equality of opportunities io participale in sportin8 attivities for people with an intellectual disability {currentty aquatics but other sport5 can be provlded In tP future): improved geneial health and increased levels of fitness; improved quallty of life through enhancement of self esteem and enhancement of social skills; greater social awd￿ne$S and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities. These benefits can be evidenced through; feedback from parents and athletes: independent evaluation in the form of SportNI Clubmark avrnrd," coKhinB records of athletes performance; success and achievements in competitions. A questlonnaire will also be developed to record feedback from pa￿nts and athleres. Throughout the period of thi5 report the club ran 3S one I￿￿r training sessions to coach. teach, train and develop our athletes swimming abilities and techniques with a view to entering competition within the Special Olympics 4 year completion cycle. 11 of our athletes competed in year l area 8ames in with 5 achieving advan￿ment to year 2. Re8ional Games in which they will compeie against club5 from throughout Ulsier. Some of ihe athletes who were not ￿adY for fomial competltM)n were able to compete in lessfomi competitive actrdit*s during dub trainin8. AlonBside trainin8 the club also ran a healthy athlere programme with monthly session5 that covered topic including healthy eatin& personal hygiene, heatlhy teeth. fir feer, sun safety. good hydration, and physical activity. At the end of each temi we held a celebration event to eTrcoura8e social skills at the same time os formal recognition of athievementthrou8h presentstian of award5 and certificate5. We finished off the year with an end of year camp which induded 2 d￿5 devek)pment artNlties in recognbsed and qualified activity provider.

All of our athletes showed improvement throughout the year in their swimrning ability. Social interaction and knowled8e and understanding of the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. This vms demonstrated through achievements at competition, improvements in timings recorded at training throughout the year, feedback from parents, feedback from coaches and from the athletes themsefves. Our financial ststement shows that we had fvnds of £4274 at the beginnin8 of the year and through subscriptions. grants and fijndraising we benefrted from additional income of £6769. Our spend throughout the year was £7522. The spend was on ruDDing c05t for the sporting actNities including facility hi￿ and equipment, athlete recognition and development activities, and club 8overnance. A lar8e proportion of the spend on the end of year camp which totalled £3561. This was subsidised by a specific grant of £2CKX) from George Best Belfast City Airport'5 community furh4.
