## **Annual Report for the year ended 31[st] March 2023**

## Year in Focus

The Trustees of Christian Care Trust submit this report and accounts for the period 1[st] April 2022 to 31[st] March 2023. This is the sixth report following registration with the Charity Commission NI.

The main focus of Christian Care Trust (CCT) continues to be to support on-going work in two areas of Romania, the South-East and the North-West. CCT has been helping in the South-East for over twenty years, and this successful partnership with local pastors and Christians is being maintained and strengthened. The work in the North-West has helped to establish a church and support programme in a very needy village.

CCT has funded children and youth camps in a purpose built centre for many years; the camps provide a holiday for underprivileged children and young people, where many activities take place including games, sports, challenges and a Bible teaching programme.

The summer camp recommenced after the pandemic. Whilst we were not able to visit, we were still able to support the work across Romania.

The Trustees meet regularly – both in person and via online communication – to update the current situation and to agree the distribution of funds. The Trustees are fully aware of their duties in terms of the appropriate legislation and not one of the Trustees receives any remuneration for any of their activities, not even expenses. With the exception of bank charges and accounting fees and some of the travelling expenses (particularly where visitors have been invited to visit and help), it is the intention of the Trustees that most of our donations are used directly for the work in Romania, which at the moment is our main area of focus.

## Financial Review

The accounts show a decreased level of income from last year and a slight decrease in expenditure to the previous year. Whilst that meant a deficit, there is still enough in the funds for the Charity to continue to function.

Expenditure included continuing to provide medicine and costs for treatment for those who have been suffering illness and sickness, as well as the summer camp and provision of accommodation in the poor area of Odoreu.

We are profoundly grateful for those who have generously and freely donated, without whom all of these programmes would not be possible.

This Annual Report and Financial Review have been approved by the Trustees of Christian Care Trust and signed on their behalf on 5[th] November 2023 by

## Governance and Management

Christian Care Trust is governed by a Trust Deed, which was last amended on the 1[st] September 2015, a copy of which is available by contacting the Trustees. The Trustees run the charity and are responsible for the receipt and distribution of funds. They meet at least two times per year, but are in regular communication, in order to agree the distribution of funds, the current financial accounts and planned events. The Annual Report and Statement of Accounts are approved by the Trustees.

## Objectives and Activities

The purposes of the Charity as set out in the Trust Deed are the advancement of religion and the prevention or relief of poverty. The main area of our work is in Romania, but where the need arises in other areas that fit in with our purposes, the Trustees will give due consideration to supporting that need.

The Trustees are fully aware of the legal requirement to have regard for the public benefit and the Trustees confirm that the public benefit requirement has informed the activities of the Charity in the year to 31[st] March 2023. The public benefit arises from the fact that the churches that we support are open to all. In Odoreu, in particular, a community day centre helps the local people to learn work and educational skills. Underprivileged children and young people are provided with a free holiday that they would not be able to afford. As part of the conditions of any construction work that is funded, local unemployed people should be employed in the project.

Christian Care Trust exists to help Christians and Churches, currently in Romania, both in providing resources to build churches and community centres and supporting them in their ongoing work and providing aid for those who are poor and needy.
