Chairperson’s Report
The Hampsey Harp School has had another successful but challenging year emerging after the Covid 19 pandemic.

In January 2022, the school invested in 2 Turmeenan Learner harps to replace older harps.

At present the school has 25 pupils and 4 teachers – Lauren O’Neill, Kerri Mullan; Lucy Millar and Alicia Doherty. Lessons returned face to face in Garvagh Community Building in 2022 with the option if required to return to Zoom. Each pupil is offered 10 half hour lessons each term.

In April, 6 pupils entered Coleraine Music Festival gaining 2 second places and 2 third places.

In June 2022, 11 pupils entered London College of Music exams in Irish Traditional Music using the harp as their instrument at various grades from Initial to grade 4 and all passing with either merit or distinction.

2 Pupils entered the Co Derry Fleadh and qualified for Ulster Fleadh with 1 pupil going on to represent Ulster at the All Ireland Fleadh.

2 pupils auditioned and were selected to perform IMBOLC 2022 Folk Orchestra conducted by Martin Tourish

Pupils performed at various events and workshops throughout year eg Music in Cornerstone Park in August, Harp Day in October, in ensembles and at care homes.
