Treasurer’s Report – 30/06/2023

Total Income £47,507.00 (£75,779.00)

Total Expenditure £55,145.00 (£52,382.00)

Net Loss £7,638.00 (Net Profit £23,398.00)

There is a loss of £7,638.00 made this year by the Playgroup. This is compared to a profit of £23,398.00 in the year to 30/06/2022, which was as a result of receiving a large Covid Grant of £23,486.00. In the previous year to 30/06/2021 however there was a loss of £16,572.00 incurred, and the loss this year is not dissimilar to the loss in the year to 30/06/2019.

Income this year went down to £47,507.00 (from £75,779.00) and expenditure this year increased to £55,145.00 (from £52,382.00) resulting in the bank account balances reducing from £39,709.00 at the start of the financial year to £32,084.00 at the end.

Engage III funding was received for September 2022 to December 2022 and January 2023 to March 2023, a Department of Health Grant was applied for by the Committee and received and used for outdoor play equipment, Getting Ready to Learn funding was received and used for a Big Bedtime Read and following the Committee’s application to the Early Years Pathway Fund funding was received in May 2023 and used to develop a Breakfast Club and for staff training. Timely and considered funding/grant applications by the Committee will continue to be of vital importance to Playgroup finances going forward.

The loss made highlights how crucial fundraising activities are to the Playgroup all year round. This year the fundraising activities included a Poker night, an Easter Draw and a Picnic Table Raffle with fundraising accounting for £3,179.00 of income. The Committee are again running a Christmas Draw this year, which proved to be a very successful fundraiser in 2021.

The Committee and Staff worked closely together during the year to identify areas where expenditure could be reduced, and reserve funds are healthy.

The support of parents, volunteers and local business and trades people is vital to the Playgroup and the Committee would ask parents and families to please volunteer and get involved with the Playgroup to help both the Committee and Staff maintain the financial efficiency of the Playgroup going forward.
