SLIEVE GALLION COMMUNITY PRE-SCHOOL LTD 52c LONGFIELD ROAD, DESERTMARTIN, MAGHERAFELT, Co DERRY, BT45 5NS CHAIRPERRSON'S REPORT FOR AGM TO BE HELD 7[th] NOVEMBER 2022

I would like to welcome you all here tonight to our Annual General Meeting of 2022. I see a lot of new faces in the room which is great to see and appreciate you taking this time to come along a support us tonight.

I would like to introduce our Committee Members. Firstly myself, Fran Barker – Chairperson. Denise McCool – Treasurer, Nadine Conway – Secretary (All other members who are in the room) Introduce Staff.

I would also like to welcome and introduce Ann Dixon, our Early Years Specialist. Ann has been with us down through the years, supporting and advising our Staff and Committee with Legislation in relation to Social Services and the Education Authority. Ann has been a vital part of our Pre-school and a important roles in making our Pre-School the success it is today.

Slieve Gallion Community Pre-school Ltd is a charitable organisation run by parents and volunteers and provides a valuable Pre-school service for families in the local area. The growing need for a Preschool service in the area was identified approx 1991 and Slieve Gallion Playgroup was established by a group of parents, based in the GAA Hall just across the road from our current premises. After a couple of years this site and a mobile were acquired to facilitate the Playgroup and demand for the service provided continued apace. ln 2007 Slieve Gallion Playgroup was restructured as a company limited by guarantee and re-named Slieve Gallion Community Pre-school Ltd. We are a not-for-profit organisation, still managed by volunteers. The company currently has 3 Directors supported by a committee of parents who help with the day-to-day running of the organisation and fund-raising activities.

The Pre-School has experienced its ups and downs in particular over the last 4-6 years, stemming from the reduced lack of funding available to Pre-schools, the retirement a long-standing Pre-leader and Pre-school assistant, COVID 19 to the now the increased rise in heating, lighting costs but due to the determination of staff and committee members we are continually fighting to provide a highquality Pre-school for the Children and families of our local and surrounding communities. We have had an increase in numbers enrolled from 2020/21 where there was 14 children to now having 20 children for 2021/22. To help with this increase we have had to employ a 3[rd] full-time member of staff. We also now have Willowtree Afterschools based at our premises. Not only does this provide an additional income for the Pre-school it has also raised the awareness for a the need for good high quality childcare facilities in our local community.

In order to keep striving the Pre-school and staff need parents/grandparents/older siblings/any member of this community, who has time to devote on a voluntary capacity to get behind this Preschool and help. There is many a role available, DIY, Committee member, Company Director, Fundraising, Finances, Trades men/women, the list is endless. As we are a Charity organisation we are required to have a fully functioning Management Committee. Without this service we will not be eligible for receiving funding nor do we pass the criteria set out by Social Services or Education Board to run our Pre-school. No Management Committee, No Pre-school!!
