DROMARA LOCAL HISTORY GROUP
Registered Charity No NIC102673
The Annual General Meeting of the above group was held on Monday 17[th] Sept. 2018, after a talk on the famous SAS Officer Blair Mayne.
The Chairman Mr Vaughan Byrne commented on how the group continued to flourish, with the Trustees meeting regularly to review and plan the group’s activities. New people were turning up at the varied subject talks we have enjoyed over the past year, with many becoming full members. He also reminded the membership to keep collecting stories etc for our next publication, before he asked the Secretary Mr Herbie Chambers to give a brief report on activities of the group over the last year. These included 8 extremely well received and supported history talks, the Annual Outing in June to South Antrim with Dr David Hume acting as guide for the day, followed by an evening meal in the Loughshore Hotel. We also had two shorter outings. These were to see the Poppy Display at the Ulster Museum and a visit to Clifton House.
The secretary thanked everyone who had helped with the organisation of these events. Membership has remained steady, with an average of 35 attending our talks. GDPR training delivered by Lisburn and Castllereagh City Council was completed by some members of the Trustees and the necessary documentation signed off.
The Chairman thanked the secretary for the review of the group’s activities before inviting the treasurer Mrs Sandra Byrne to present a financial statement of accounts for the year. This was read to the group, paper copies circulated and explanations given to any queries. The accounts as presented were accepted by the members. The Treasurer was thanked for financial statement by the Chairman, before he declared all offices vacant.
The invited speaker accepted an invitation to conduct the election of office bearers for the incoming session.
The acting Chairman asked for nominations for Chairperson, with the following suggestion made from the floor - “that everyone currently in post be re-elected”. This was well received by the membership attending and was formally proposed by Mr Eric Jess, seconded by Herbie Chambers and passed unanimously. As a result the Office Bearers for the new session are:
Chairman: Vaughan Byrne Vice Chairman: Eddie Doyle Secretary: Herbie Chambers Assistant Secretary: Joan Browne Treasurer: Sandra Byrne Committee: Seamus McKay, Violet Griffiths, Martin Ball, Hamilton Tate and Helen Nilen.
