## **Greenisland Parish Church** ## **Easter Annual General Vestry Meeting March 26[th] and May 7[th] 2023** Present: Rev Isy, Lorna Brown, Roger Moore, Doreen Faulkner, Christine Jones, Erin Hill, Leslie Gourley, Sandra Gourley, Gareth Moore, Donna Moore, Winnie Hart, Dawn Hart, Harry Donnelly, Austin Smyth, Danna Cochrane, Jim Newberry, June Johnstone, Harry Knott, Drew Hughes, Eileen Hughes, Margaret Black Apologies: Maggi Watson, Sam Steele, Hilary Dunlop, Lindsay Dunlop, Catherine Evans, Lynn McClurg, Hazel Donnelly, Anna McCartney. Rev Isy welcomed everyone and the meeting opened with a bible reading. The minutes of the Annual General Vestry Meeting May 2022 were agreed and signed. Proposed: D Cochrane 2[nd] : Roger Martin Rev Isy reflected on some of the achievements of building and grounds works and thanked Roger and Harry for overseeing the general maintenance of these including the new lights installation, the painting of the hall and the resurfacing of the carpark. Erin was thanked for organising the finance. The PBNI were also thanked for maintaining the lawns and general cleaning of the church and hall. Rev Isy also praised the very successful Summer Week 2022, saying it reflected the partnership of local churches working together in the community. Both Rev Isy and Lorna represented the parish in this partnership which is currently organising a service for Pentecost. Rev Isy then invited a representative from the various church groups and activities to speak. Bowls club. Austin said the club had around 18 members and was going so well that the members wanted to continue over the summer and are saving for a new bowling mat. Tuesday tots. Erin said it was going very well with volunteers helping on a six week rota. After schools Arts and Crafts (Catherine Evans) Dawn said numbers very good and it was enjoyed by all. Vision Strategy Team. (Rev Isy, Roger, Lorna, Harry) The group meets as often as they can and Rev Isy said she appreciates it as a sounding board. She hoped to set up the prayer ministry team again for all after the church service. The parish readers were also thanked. LIFT. Meeting on the 1[st] and 3[rd] Thursdays every month, Danna said this was going very well with around 14 members and would be grateful for any suggestions of speakers to come and give a talk. Church choir. While numbers are up, the church organist, Sandra, would like more members join. Rev Isy also added that it would be good to have some musical instruments to join them. Youth group. Lorna is pleased to have an attendance of around 10 at the monthly meetings. Knitting and crochet group. Winnie said this group was going really well and they also enjoyed occasional day outings on the train. Sew good friends. Doreen said they were a small group but would like to welcome more. They enjoy all things stitching and are happy to teach anyone how to use a sewing machine. Bible Study group. Harry said this was well supported and was a relaxed and enlightening hour. Thursday Prayer time. A quiet time for personal prayer or someone to pray with you. Rev Isy said it was an opportunity to reach out to the community as it was good to see people popping in. Church services and upcoming special services and events. 9 00am Service of Holy communion. Small in numbers but a beautiful service. 10 30am services include Service of the word, Family service and Morning prayer were seeing an encouraging increase in attendance. 7 00pm service This is a contemporary service with numbers remaining low. School assembly talks are going well and taken by Rev Isy and our Parish Reader, Lorna. A united service is being planned. Dawn Service 9[th] April 6pm at Knockagh monument. Funeral services. More are now taking place in funeral parlours. Kalos project. This is in planning. Men’s breakfast. We are hoping to start this and some speakers have already been lined up. Spring Craft fair. 1[st] April (run by Catherine) Royal coronation. Planning is underway to have this projected in the Hall. Funding is available. Friday Nov 25[th] . An evening with David Branagh Curry and friends. Food Hygiene Certificates have been obtained Safeguarding Trust training has been undertaken. Finances Erin presented the finance report. Roger proposed a vote of thanks to Erin. Rev Isy also thanked Erin and Mr Harry Knott for his work as Honorary Treasurer. Lorna thanked all who work behind the scenes with a special mention for Winnie. **Nomination of Select Vestry members** .
