CARRICKFERGUS COMMUNITY CULTIVATORS
Trustees Annual Report
The aims of our organisation as set out in its constitutional document are
-
To use social agriculture and horticulture to enhance and develop community capacity
-
To promote and encourage voluntary activity by being primarily a volunteer organisation.
-
To use community food cultivation to support economically disadvantaged groups
-
To educate and advise on community cultivation methods and techniques , and we have been continuing to work over the year to proceed with activities in this context.
We are also a volunteer organisation, which has grown out of a local allotments group, aims to promote community growing activities as a system which can support many very positive community outcomes as well as being an enjoyable activity in its own right. Our main recent activities at present are primarily advisory, promotional, and educational, both practically and in terms of dissemination of information. Currently for example we are working with other local groups on the development of public green spaces in the town centre. We have also been working with a community groups in the Greenisland and Whitehead to further develop a self-managed allotments and community fruit growing sites. During the past year we continue to reach out to older isolated people and are setting up a cultivation courier system to put house plants into older single people’s homes
