8 Hanna Street is a residential home in north Belfast which offers care for people who have learning disabilities. It also provides care on a respite basis for similar individuals who are cared for at home by their families. The home is managed by the Belfast Trust and the charity exists to help the residents of the home and those who avail of respite services. The trustees are all either family or friends of those who avail, or have availed, of the home.
None of the trustees are remunerated in any way. We raise money by organising ballots, bag packing and donations from individuals and local businesses, usually between £500 and £5,000 per year and all income is used to improve the quality of the residents' lives. Management of the home identify services which the residents need, which are not funded by the Belfast Trust, and if approved by the trustees the funds are released.
' Over the past number of[years][ we][funded][the][conversion][ of] a back yard into a patio and garden area with new plants, garden boxes and patio furniture. Given that all of our residents are vulnerable we are still being very careful in our activities so as to protect them as best as we can. We updated the furniture in the patio area and, following discussions with the Trust, we paid for the installation of some equipment in the home to upgrade certain security features. All residents have benefited substantially from this. Historically we also help fund therapy sessions, television & computer equipment, soft furnishings and looking forward to 2023 we hope to resume therapy sessions, trips to places of interest and the annual Christmas party.
The trustees actions have, at all times during the period, had regard for the Commission's Public Benefit Requirement statutory guidance and none of the trustees receive any payment or expenses.
At the date of this Report the trustees were as follows: - Fra Toland, Rosie Branny and Pat McIntyre.
The treasurer's report, which includes a breakdown of our income and expenditure, is contained in the annual accounts submitted to the Commission along with this Report.
