The aims and objectives of the Band is:
- To increase participation and awareness of the Ulster Scots tradition in the Markethill area and it’s environs by advancing the musical ability of young people and their leaders through education, training and membership of a marching band.

5. Trustees Report
The Chairman (Ivan Walker) on behalf of the Trustees, give the annual report on the work of the Band.
The band made steady progress during 2018 however the membership decreased by 4 to a total of seventy, this was due to several members having work commitments, which meant they no longer had time to parade with the band. Our 4 young learners managed to achieve the required standard of playing ability and are currently parading with the band. Currently we have another three young people learning to play the flute and 2 learning the side drum. The color party have increased their membership back up to 13 again with 2 girls joining during the year.
The band has continued to provided a safe and inexpensive environment for young people to learn a musical instrument, as well as promote health and fitness, raising self-esteem, leadership skills, working as a team and pride in achievement. It also provides a recognisable focus for family involvement and receives widespread community recognition for the work it does with young people.
Four members took part in marshaling training and because our first aid and child protection training is currently up-to-date no further training was necessary.
The band elected a new bandmaster this year and it has resulted in further improvement in our playing ability. The band practiced hard over the winter months learning 5 new tunes further enhancing its’ repertoire.
The Band took part in fifty-three Parades all over Northern Ireland from 17" March until the last parade on 22" September. We also arranged our own parade on Friday 1° June with sixty bands in attendance making it one of the largest parades in Northern Ireland that year. The parade attracted an estimated crowd of ten thousand helped by the fact it was a lovely sunny evening.
The Chairman also reported that the Committee would soon start planning for the seventieth anniversary events that they were planning to hold next year and further information would be available early in the new year. After a general discussion the band also agreed an action plan and list of events for the year ahead.
