The Charity Trustees present the Annual Report and financial statements for St. Columba's Parish Church. Knock for the year ended
31st December 2023.
Objectives and Activities
The charitable purpose of the Church of Ireland is the advancement of religlon.
The principal function of St. Columba's Parish Church, Knock is to SUPPOrt the advancement of the Christian religion by promotln
through its worl the whole mission of the Churchi Pastoral, evangellstlc, soclal and ecumenical. Being open to and engaging with
society as a whole and offèring support for those needing help are fundamental to the practical delivery of the benefits of
Chrlstlanity.
As a result of actlvity In the pursuit of the advancement of the Christian religion, St. CoSumba's Parish Church. Knock ha5 Custody of
property and of records, materials and artefacts of significance to cultural and religious heritage. The maintenance of these is
managed by the Select Vestry of the Par15h.
Achlevements, Performance & Public Beneflt
The 2023 year has been one of great blessings for the p3ri5h with much enrichment for current and future generations. We have
augmented the major church roof replacement prolect with replasterinB ènd repalntlng all of which adds to the warmth and
welcoming nature of our church building. Over the course Df the year we have also undertaken a major remodeling of the front of
the church whlch gives great flexSbllity and a space to enhance our choral traditlons. ThrouBhout the year, St Columba's Parish
Church has continued to act as a beacon of hope. The Church Is maklng a difference to people's live5 in the Parish, the surrounding
area and within the wSder world through prayer and donations by parishioner5 of time and thoney.
The generosity and falthfulness of our parishioners has continued unabated, The year-end accounts show that giving has held up
and that the Parlsh rem31ns In a strong financial posltlon. Because of this generosity, the Parish contlnues to offer support to those
In need locally and further afield through, for example, focused Mission and Charity donations.
The publSc benefit a5$0Ciated with St Columbi's actlvltles has been enhanced and promoted by Its constantly updated web presence

The Charity Trustees ¢onslder the financial results for the year to 31st December 2023 and the financial position at that date to be
satisfactory.
The Income Into the Parish from various sources was £251,99912022.. £279,274) with out8oings of £326,06212022: £209,121)
giving a deficit of £74.06312022.' surplus of £70,153).
Income to unrestricted funds amounted to £171,17812022.' £168,028) and income to restricted funds amounted ta £80,82112022.'
£111,2461. The income to restTlCted funds Included £16,08412022'. £27,222) to the church roof fund.
The value of the charltvs investment in M&G Charifund units decreased from £70,537 on 1st January 2023 to £68.880 on 31st
December 2023.
The bank and cash In hand balance as at 315t December 2023 was £112,03012022: £220,4541.
The Trustees consider it appropriate to hold re5erve5 UP to the equivalent of one yearfs running costs. As at 31st December 2023,
the balance on the general lunrestrictedl fund stands at £63,805. With the yearfs unrestricted fund expenses totalling £188,993. the
level of reserves is con51Stent with the trustee5' policy.
Going Concern
The Trustees have reviewed the budgets for the year ahead and are satlsfied that there are adequate funds In place to ensure that
the Parish can continue its activities and the financial 5tatement5 for the year ended 31st December 2023 can be signed off as
going ¢oncern.

STRucfuRE GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing Document and Constitution of the Charity
ChaptÈr111 of the Constitution of the Church of Irèland governs Parishes and Parochial Organisation. The Select Vestry members are
the CharityTrustees.
Recruitment and Appolntment of Selert Vestry (Trustees)
All member5 of the Chtjrch of Ireland who are over the age of 18 and are elther resident wlthln the Parish or live elsewhere but
have been accustomed members of the congregat>on for at least three month5. may register as member5 of the General Vestry of
the Parish. Thèt allows them to attend and vote at meetings of the General Vestry and to stand for electlon to the Select Vestry
subject to a number of eligibility crSteria which are in line with Charity Legislation and Northern Ireland Charity Commission
guidelines. Meetings of the General Vestry are held at least once a year. The Selert Vestry Is elected a5 part of this General Vestry
meeting. The Select Vestry will hold their positions for a period of one year. Select Vestry members may be re-elected annually and
there is no limit on the number of terms whlch may be seNed.
Pay and Remuneration
Acting in his role as the Rectorlincumbent of St. Columba's Parish Church, the Rev Canon John Auchmuty receives a stipend and
offlce and locomotory allowances in accordance with figures approved by the General Synod of the Church of Ireland.
No other Charlty Trustees receive any remuneratlon from St. Columba's Parlsh Church.
Organisational Structure
The Select Vestry is responslble for the day to day management of the Parish. The Select Vestry conslsts of the member of the
Clergy servSng In the Parish Ithe incumbentl, the Church warden5, the Glebe wardens and generally no more than twelve other
mèmbers of the General Vestry elected at the annual meeting of the General Vestry.
The Selected Ve5tTY Is chalred by the Incumbent. Select Vestry members 3re responslble for maklng declslons on matters of general
concern and Importance to the Parish including on decldlng how Parish funds are to be app15ed.
The Select Vestry meets at tlmes flxed by the members or by the Diocesan Synod. Special Meetings may. be convened ot any time by
the Chairperson or the Church Wardens.
Compliance with Publlc Benefit
The Charity trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guldance on publSc benefit
to ensure that the activities entered int¢ during the year have helped to ach5eve the Parish's objectives and activities, as well as
providing publlc beneflt.
Statement of Trustees, Responsibilities
The Trustees are responslble for preparing the Charity Trustees, Report and the financlal statements In accordance wlth applicable
law and regulations.
The Charity Trustees are re5pon5ible for keeping accountin8 records that are sufficient to show and explaSn the Parish's transactions
and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and liabllities of the Parish. They are also responsible for safeguarding
the assets of the Parish and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other Srregularitis.

I report on the financial statement5 of the charity for the year ended 315t December 2023, which are set out on pages 3 to 15.
Respective responsibilitie5 of trurtees and examlner
The office BÈarÈrs arè responsible for the preparation of the accounts. They consider that an audit is not required for this year
under section 65131 of the Charities Act (Northern Irelandl 2008. They also consider that an independent examlner's report is
required for this year under section 65141 of the Charlties Act (Northern Irelandl 2008.
The charity's gross income does nor exceed £500,000 and l am qualified to undertake the examination by bèlng a qualified member
of The In5tltute of CharteTed Accountants In Ireland.
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audlt undèr company law and Is eligible for independent examination, It Is
my responsibility to:
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act INorthern Ireland) 2008,'and

The financial statements are prepared in accordance with Accountlng and Reporting by Charltles.. Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Finantial Reportlng
Standard applScable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffoctive from 1st January 20151 Icharities SORP
IFRS10211, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable In the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Companies Act
2006 (insofar as this applies to the Charity).
St. Colurnba's Parish, Knock meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilitie5 are initially
retognised at historical cost or transartion value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting pollcy notelsl.
Preparatlon of the accounts on a 8olng concern ba$l$
The Trustee5' policy is to undertake ongolng revlew of the 'Going Concern, status of the charity, taking note of the
organisation's reserves policy and projected availability of funds to enable the ¢rganlsatlon to fulfil its responsibilities. A
statement on the outcome of the ongoing review is given at note 18 on page 15.
Revenue
Items of revenue are recognised and Included In the accounts when all of the followSng crlterla are met:

Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are general funds whi¢h are avallable for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the

accumulated surpluses and deficits of unrestricted income and expendlture.
Restrlrted funds are fund5 which are to be used In accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have
been raised by the charity for particular purposes. The costs of administering such funds are charges against the specific
fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund is set out in the notes to the.financial statements.
Endowment funds are fund5, the ¢apit31 of which must be retained either permanently or at the trustees, discretion,. the
income derived from the endowment is to be used either as restricted or unrestricted Income fund5 depending upon the
purpose for which the endowment was established in the first place.
