The playgroup is managed by a committee who act as the trustees, supported by staff and parents. Day-to-day operations were led by Mary Sloan, the long-standing playgroup leader, until her retirement during the year.

Committee members are elected at the AGM. The committee is made up of parents and associate members, with nominations approved by the existing committee. Trustees may serve a maximum term of three years. Induction and training are provided in-house and through Early Years.

Key developments this year

Community events and activities

Retirement of Mary Sloan

A major milestone this year was the retirement of Mary Sloan Playgroup Leader, who dedicated over 30 years of service to Atticall Playgroup. Her leadership, care, and commitment have shaped the experience of countless children and families. Her retirement was marked with a celebration in the local football club, attended by staff, families, and community members. Reserves Policy

It is the policy of Atticall Playgroup to hold bank reserves of £21,000 to sustain the playgroup through unforeseen circumstances. As of 30 June 2025, the charity held reserves in line with this policy. The trustees continue to monitor reserves carefully considering the challenging funding environment.

Risk Review

The trustees regularly review the major risks facing the charity, particularly those relating to financial sustainability, staffing changes, and the wider funding climate. Appropriate systems and procedures are in place to mitigate these risks. The trustees consider that an audit is not required under the Charities Act (NI) 2008 and that an independent examination is appropriate.
