North Down & Ards Road Safety Committee ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2018 The trustees have pleasure in presenting their report and the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2018. North Down & Ards Road Safety Cornmee is registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland NIC102409. Governance The Charity is governed by its Constitution. Trustees & recruitment Trustees are appointed from within the local community with suitable experience & expertise that will assist the charity. Charitable purposes To promote Road Safety in North Down & Ards and environs. To investigate road tralC risks and make appropriate recommendations. To disseminate publicity on safety for all road users. To take such action as is relevant to the achievement of these objects. Promote the education of the public on road accident prevention. Co-operate with Statutory bodies and other organisations in the promotion of schemes for road accident prevention and casualty redurtion. Public Benefits The Objective of North Down & Ards Road Safety Committee is the advancement of education of the public in the North Down & Ards area in relation to road safety, to reduce casualties and the prevention of road traffic collisions. and for any other charitable purpose or artivity pemiitted by law. The direct public benefits which flow from this purpose are to increase the public knowledge and awareness of road safety and to assist in improvements to the road userfs behaviour and driving skills that will in turn contribute to a reduction in casualties on our roads and the prevention of traffic collisions. There is no harm arising from the purpose that has been set out above. No individual within the organisation or any other organisation to gain any private benefit from the purposes of the charity or the work it carries out. Main activities to further its purposes for the public benefit North Down & Ards Road Safety Committee is a voluntary information and support organisatiov) which develops road safety Strate and provides information to the public. We provide information to both statutory and voluntary organisations on better ways of adopting a means in the reduction of those killed and seriously injured on our roads. We Iso provide competitions and educational programmes on road safety to schools, community groups and statutory organisations. Page 2

In addition SID was displayed at many events for public education and a new SID purchased. The cornmittee also had meetings with Community Groups. Youth organisations. Older Groups and schools in the area. We were invrted to participate in many events including Greyabbey Car & Motorbike Show, Glenlola Young Driver event (providing marshals & prizes), Local heat & Finals of Schools Road Safety Quiz. PSNI Bikesafe and Translink Safety Event. The Committee again won their category at the Annual Road Safety Awards. We were invtted to give a presentation to Councillors, PSNI and all PCSP'S in the province regarding the purchase, safety requirements. insurance. and deployment of a Speed Indicator Device ISIDI on public roads. Another major activtty was identifying and reporting many road safety hazard5 e.g. overgrown signs & pavements, safety barrier5, flooding, repainting road markings. low bridges. etc and co-operating with the authortties to ensure successful remedies and improved 5ight-lines. Various attempts by the statutory authorities were required to correct signage at the recently repaired low bridge at Clandeboye Estate. and also phasing of traffic lights in Holywood. These were c105ely monitored by the Commrttee. Frequent reFN)rting to local newspapers in addition to coverage on social media ensured that the general public were aware of all the road safety items covered in their area. Consultations with PSNI, Transport Nl and local councillors ensured that they weie fully informed of all road safety problems in the borough. Funding for all the above- provided by Ards & North Down PCSP - required full monitoring and reporting on a regular basis. Review of the chariws financial position The charity had a small surplus forthe year of £77.54 compared to last yearfs surplus of £388.71. Cash reserves rose this year to £546.15, which the Charity considers enough to meet its current needs. There are no funds deficient, nor are there any debts due.
