Belvoir Community Association Annual Report 1¥r November 2016- 31 October 2017 NIC: 102392 During the period from your last Annual Report, your Association has been busy dealing with issues of concern to the residents in the area. A role we have been doing for over 20 years now. The Trustees of your Association are Billy Johnston, Liz Graham, Bernie Reid, William Mcclelland, John Fleming, Anne Mcclean, Malcolm Halliday and Dot Mccluskey We currently have 56 members. Trustees are appointed or reappointed at the Annual General meeting held in September. All trustees give their time voluntary and receive no remuneration or other benefits. St Belvoir Gommunily Association will conlinue to pursue their obligations in the advancement of crtizenship and community development for older people and the general public. As stated in our Constitution, the Association is established lo promote the benefit of Ihe inhabitants of the Belvoir, Bests Hill and Milltown areas and their environs without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion. By co-operating with the slatulory authorities and voluntary organisalions to endeavor lo relieve poverty and sickness, assist the aged and inhabitants in a common effort lo advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and or other leisure time occupation, to improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The Association in carrying out its objectives on behalf of local residents has given careful consideration lo the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that our actions have helped to achieve the charity's purposes and provide a benefit to the beneficiaries. Our housing sub group have met with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) on a bi monlhly basis throughoul the year to discuss issues of concern re housing matters and putling complaints and questions directly lo the local housing managemenl. Because of our input, a number of housing issues for Belvoir residents have been resolved. The policing sub group have also met with the local area community police to discuss local issues and exchange information, as well as thal., a good relationship has also developed between the group and Ihe community police. We have six neighbourhood watch areas within the estate and we coordinate with the police in the running of each of them. The outcome of the neighbourhood watch areas has ensured that crime levels in Belvoir have not risen and residents feel safer. The environment and health committee have agreed lo join in the new Belvoir Hub and have nominated hNo members as directors to serve on the board. The venture is aimed al all residents in the area and when it is LFP and running (April 2018) when the new building work will be completed il will offer classes and exercise opportunities for all. We will keep you informed of these opportunities and ensure that any feedback is pul fotward on your behalf particularly as exercise can help improve existing physical and mental health conditions. The Association also updated our information booklet in an effort to inform residents of the work carried out by Belvoir Community Association and offer the opportunily lo become a member.
