Our Vision
St Jude’s is a Christian Church located within the Parish of Ballynafeigh, in the Diocese of Down and Dromore in the Church of Ireland and is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Our Vision Statement is: ‘We are a church committed to Christ, welcoming people from all nations.’
We seek to fulfill this objective, by the conduct of public worship in the Anglican tradition and as a visible presence in the local community, through outreach and by making the Church and Church Hall a welcoming environment.
Community Activities
Our outreach programme into the community opened fully in this year as the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions were finally lifted. We held a month of mission called LIFE ’22, from St Patrick’s Day (17 March) to Easter Sunday (17 April). This began with a successful Family Fun Day held at St Jude’s Church and included a mobile petting farm, face painting, craft stations, refreshments, live music and more! We held a Men’s Breakfast in Ballynafeigh Band Hall where m en enjoyed an Ulster fry and a message from our local Bishop, David McClay. We also held a Sports Quiz in a local bar ran by Christians in Sport . We hosted a Women’s Afternoon Tea and a Youth Event in our Church Hall with Guest Speakers on the theme of ‘Life’. These events were well attended by guests.
We had a week of ‘Craic with a cola can’ (Community Outreach), which was held outside, on the grounds of St Jude’s Church. Toddlers’ Group also had additional days with special sensory craft activities. St Jude’s Fellowship hosted a special event with a Guest Speaker on the topic of ‘Welcoming the Stranger’. Finally, we hosted an Easter Holiday Bible Club in our Halls for primary children and Passion Week Services in our Church.
The above are examples of how the Select Vestry have met the Public Benefit requirement of an organisation that has charitable status.

Church Activities
During our main Sunday Services we welcomed many families and hosted a fun-filled children’s programme called ‘Kids Zone’. Aimed at primary-aged children who learnt form the Bible in a creative fun way. There was also a crèche for all pre-school children which includes ‘Little Stars’ a simple Bible story and craft. ‘Youth Zone’ also met Sunday mornings for all young people and a weekly Youth Fellowship every Monday night in the Church Halls. Girls’ Brigade met weekly catering a varied programme for girls and young women. Life Groups returned to meeting in person in the Hall to explore the Bible together, discuss and pray. The Rector was supported by a Staff Team in 2022 which included a Children’s & Youth Worker and part-time Women’s Worker.
St Jude’s Church Building
The Church was constructed in 1873 and is one of the oldest buildings on the Ormeau Road. It is a listed building and is of architectural significance. The Select Vestry have a sub committee which have developed a programme of work to maintain the fabric of the building and to ensure its compliance with extant health & safety regulations. During 2022 regular maintenance was undertaken. The Church is used for Sunday and midweek services. It has also been open to the public for other occasional services such as funerals and weddings.
Renewable Energy
Both the Church and Church Hall have had solar panels installed, these provide the electricity with any surplus returned to the electricity grid.
Financial Review
The total income received during the year was £162,693 of which £58,843 was for specific purposes including maintenance of the buildings and the outreach programme. The Parish benefited from Gift Aid tax rebate and also receives income from the rental of property.
Whilst the general Account and the Outreach fund report a negative position, the Reserve Account, which includes investments held, has a significant balance and hence there is sufficient liquidity within the overall financial position.
