nationally and inteniationally. We pi'ovide artists wilh Ihe use ol our technological resources. networking opporttjnities
and access to our historical archives.
We aiE run by a rolling board of up to leii volunteers who curat¢ and deliver high qiiality exhibition5 and projects. We
provide to the public an exciting prograini))e of innovative, Inultidiscipliiiai'y contemporaiy ait froiii local, natioi)al aiid
intet'national ai'tists. alongside coinplementary edLEcational workshops and talks. We aiin to maintaiii and iinprove oui.

(moved in January 2022). Every exhibitionlprojectlevent posed new challenge5, our board responding to and adapting to
resolve issiies as best as possible. It very quickly becaine cleai. tliat we tLeeded to Inake improvement5 to the space
ordei. foi. it to best facilitate our prograiiune. With securing a 5 year lease we were able to confidently invest more in the
infrastructure of the space instrdlling a lighting rig in the gallery. iinproving our heating system,
installing a fit-for-pll￿0ye sink to facilitate the in5tallationlde-installation of exhibitions, installing a security syslein, and
pi'oviding oui. directors with iip-to-date fll'e safety training
all thanks to tlie Artist Studi03 and Makei- Spaces
Organisational Gi'aiits 2022123 awarded by Belfast City Council. This allowed us to create a iiiore safe and ¢oinfortable
environmeiit for our meinbers. volunteer5, artists, visitoi3, and directors.
The new city centre preinises has i'esulted in an increased footfall. new audiences, and further oppoitunities to work
alongside partners in B¢lfast such as OutbuiEt Queer Arts Festival and Ulster University.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
This year, we continued our sti'ong i'elationship with Ulsler Univei'sity, specifically Belfast School of Art, facilitating the
anI)Lial Sculptui-e & Lcns show with second yeai. BA students in August, and the inleriin MFA show in Januai'y. I"hese
two exhibition5 pi'ovided eai'ly-career artists V*'ith the oppoitunity to develop and exhibit new work with specialisl
suppot't froin the Catalyst Aits, boai'd.
With our Gi'aduate Award Show, supporled by Fei)lon Art Trust, we were abl¢ to support Di'eainbean in fiii1hei-
developing tlieir practice and achieve an ambitious installation in our gallery space with their fii'st ever solo sl)ow.
At Catalyst w¢ value our meinbers and the syinbiotic relationsliip of support that exists between us and Dur members.
This year we waiited lo provide our inembers with a paid opportunity to develop and exhibit work. Thi5 took shape as a
curated ¢xl)ibilion of three Inembers, work5 seleclcd throu-h ali open call, providing tneinbers willi the opportunity lo
develop ai)d exhibit new woi'k wilh the support of the Catalyst boai'd. We also sought lo find new ways of engaging witli
and platfortiiing our iiiembers leading to the developin¢nt ofcaslial Placeinents a ineinbers. newslett¢r where Ineinbers
have the spac¢ to shal'e their ongoing works, ideas. and thoughts willi new audicnces.
With the BCC Artist Studios & Maker Spaces Organisalional Grant we were able to iinprove and ¢xpand on our
Inembers, resources expanding and diversifying our librai'y, expanding our tools resources, and pi'ovidiiig i)ew printing
facilities. We were also able to iii)pi'ove on the coiidition of oiii. aitliive d)rough acquii-in8 furthei. <lPPI'opriate archiving
Inaiei'ials and providing our board aiid voliinleers with ai'chive traiiiing - ensuring the longevity of the 30 years, aiid
COLinling, Catalyst Arts archive for years to coine an iinportani aiid useful i'esoui'ccs foi. both ineiiibei's aiid tlie widcr

A core eleineiit of our prograinme thi'oughoiit 2022-23 was audience engagement. This weaved itself throughout the
progi'aiiiine in the foiin of events and workshops including: a drink n, draw, discussioii groups, a publication launch, a
I'eadiiig and list¢ning group, poetry reading eveiits, hands-on workshops, soup Inaking> coininunal cookingy and eating,
and live-ait perfoi'inances. Tliese evei)1s and workshops allowed for audience5 to engag¢ witli conteinpoi'ary visual al't in
new ways as well as developing skills.
Thi'ee Co-Directoi' shows took place over the year- Of Course, Core is Concrete. artd Omainents of Pi'ospecl. Of Course
was an exhibition which was activated by the foiin of a dii)iier party witl) a series of coiirses unfolding IlirouglioLlt the
Inontli. Over the coui'se of its 29 years, Calaly5t Ails has occiipied five distinct pi'einises; Col'e is Concrete exploi'ed ihe
new spacc of 6 Joy's Enliy through Ihe coiiiini5sion and preseiitalioii of tliree sile-specific responses. Oiiiaiiieiits of
Pi'ospect was an installation whicli i-eimagined tool Inaking and Ineihods of Inetal pi'odu¢tion, and how this iniglit lead to
Collective and alternalkve i)iodes of coininunication, knowledge and craft.

Financial performance in the year to 31 March 2023 ha5 been broadly coiisislenl with the trustee's forecasls and
expectations. Incotne i'eceipts for the year totalled £67.139 (2022.. £48.177) and expenditui'e for the year totalled
£62,035 (2022: £59,658). This resulted in a surplus of £5,104 (2022- deficit of £1 1,481) for the yeai..
Resei'ves policy
Financial Policy on Operating Reserves involves maintaining an operating reserve5 ratio of between three atid 51X
months col'e costs which based on current income and expenditLire varies between £7,000 and £14.000.
