Introductlon
The trustees are pleased lo present the annual report tor Lucy's Trust, oullining Ihe
charity's actNities, achievements, and tinancial health for the year ended 31 st October
2023. All activities were carried out with careful consideration of the Charity Commission
for Northem Ireland's guidance on public benefit to meet our objectives and provide
meaningful impact.
Objectives and Activities
The purposes of Lucy's Trust are:
Canlne Welfare:
To relieve canine suffering by taking in stray, neglected, and unwanted dogs.
particularty those requiring veterinary attention or those with behavioral or
breed-related challenges.
To rehabilitate, provide care, and rehome Ihese dogs where possible. For
dogs that cannol be rehomed, we provide pennanenl sanctuary.
Public Educatlon:
To educate the public on animal welfare, focusing on the proper care and
trealment of dogs.
To encourage a humane attitude toward animals through direct
communicalion, publlc forums, and educational events with quallfied canine
behaviorists.

Achievements and Performance
Sanctuary Work:
Continued to provide sanctuary for over 30 dogs at any.given time, focusing on
those with behavioral challenges or significant bite histories.
Provided exlensive velerinary care, including chronic and acule treatments for
elderly and geriatric dogs.
Notsble Cases:
We took In three feral pups (Ray, Kate, and Marla) from Corran Kennels, providing
care and rehabilltation.
Cared for long-term residents facing heallh challenges:
Jocko, who arrived in 2020, passed away in February after a long and
courageous battle with lymphoma.
Blndl, a beauliful black-and-white Bull Mastiff who joined us in 2015, faced
signrficant health challenges. Diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma (HSA} In
September after a collapse and a pericardial effusion in August, Bindi
required emergency treatment and specialized care from a heart specialist.
Xena, a wonderful lurcher who became part of Lucy's Trust in 2013,
experienced a spinal stroke in September.
Vlc, a long-term resident, passed away in early September after two years of
management wilh multiple medications to ease arthritis. Sadly, his condition
progressed to renal failure.
Dave, another cherished member of Lucy's Trust, passed in June due to a
suspected collapsing trachea.
Behavloral Support:
This year saw a notable downtum in behavioral help requests, as more individuals
expressed an unwillingness to work with their dogs, challenges. Unfortunately, many
sought lo surrender their pels instead of pursuing training or rehabilitation. This
trend highlights ongoing difficulties post-lockdown, with pounds and rescues
overwhelmed by the volume of dogs requiring placement and care.
Infrastructure Improvements:
Replaced roofing over Bea and Ray's kennel in April 2023, with plans to fundraise
for additional repairs.
Publlc Benefit
Lucy's Trust ensures all activities align with its mlsslon to relieve canine suffering and
educate the public. Initiatives this year included:
Providing direct behavioral advlce through messaging and public forums like
Facebook.

Hosting information sessions led by canine behaviorisls to promote responslble dog
ownership and prevent dog bites.

The trustees have reviewed budgets for the upcoming year and are confident that funds
are sufficient to continue operations.

l. Accounting policies
The principal accounting policies adopted, judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the
preparation of the financial statements are as follows:
a) Preparatlon of accounts on a going concern basis
The charity generally meets its day to day working capital requirements from its annual income. The Trustees
have obtained and reviewed cash flow forecasts for the coming year and based on these are satisfied that the
charity has resources to provide a reasonable expectation that it can continue to meet its financial obligations as
they fall due for the foreseeable future. Therefore these financial ststements have been prepared on a going
concern basis
b) Income
Income is accounted for on a cash receipts basis as the amount is collected and are allocated as either restrirted
or unrestricted funds according to the terms of the donation.
c} Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised on a cash payments basis.
d) Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents includes cash in hand, deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid
investments with original maturities of three months or less and bank overdrafts.
e) Funds
Funds are classified as either restricted funds or unrestricted funds, defined as follows:
Restricted funds are funds subject to specific requirements as to their use which may be declared by the donor
or with their authority or created through legal processes, but still within the wider objects of the Charity.
Unrestricted funds are expendable at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the objects of the charity. If
parts of the unrestricted funds are earmarked at the discretion of the trustees for a particular purpose, they are
designated as a separate fund. This designation has an administrative purpose only and does not legally restrict
the trustees, discretion to apply the fund.
