All activitles were carrled out with careful consideratlon of the Charlty Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit lo meet our objectives and provide meaningful impact. Objectives and Activitles The purposes of Lucy'8 Trust are: Canlne Welfare: To relieve canine suffering by taking in stray, neglecled, and unwanted dogs, particularly those requiring veterinary attention or those with behavioral or breed-related challenges. To rehabilitate, provide care, and rehome these dogs where possible. For dogs that cannot be rehomed, we provide permanent sanctuary. Publlc Education: To educate the public on animal welfare, locuslng on the proper care and treatment of dogs. To encourage a humane attitude loward anlmals through direcl communication, public forums, and educational events with qualllied canine behaviorists.
Achievement8 and Performance Sanctuary Worf(: Continued to provide sanctuary for over 30 dogs at any glven tlme, focusing on those with behavioral challenges or significanl bit8 hlstories. Provided extensive veterinary care, including chronic and acute treatments for elderly and gerlatrlc dogs. Notable Cases: We took In three feral pups (Ray, Kate, and Marla) from Corran Kennels, providing care and rehabllltalion. Cared for long-t8rm residents laclng health challenges: Jocko, who arrived In 2020, passed away in February after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma. Bindl, a beautiful black-and-white Bull Masliff who jolned us in 2015, faced significant health Ghallenges. Diagnosed wilh hemanglosarcoma (HSA) in September after a collapse and a pericardial effusion In August, Bindi r8quired emergency treatment and specialized care from a heart specialist. Xena, a wonderful lurcher who became part of Lucy's Trust in 2013, experienced a spinal stroke in September. Vlc, a long-tsrm resident. passed away in early September after two years of management with muftiple medications to ease arthritis. Sadly, his condition progressed to renal failure. Dave, another cherished member of Lucy's Trusl, passed in June due to a suspected collapsing trachea, Behavlornl Support: This year saw a notable downtum in behavloral help requests, as more individuals expressed an unwlllingness to work with thelr dogs, challenges. Unfortunatsly, many sought to surrender their pets Instead of pursuing training or rehabilitation. This trend highlights ongoing dlfficulties post-lockdown, with pounds and rescu8S overwhelmed by the volume of dogs requiring placement and care. Infrastructure Improvements: Replaced roofing over Bea and Ray's kennel in Aprll 2023, with plans lo fundraise for additional repalrs. Publlc Benefit Lucy's Trust ensures all activltles align with its mSssion to relleve canine suffering and educate the public. Initlatives this ygar included: Providing dlrect behavioral advice through messaging and public forums like Facebook.
Hosting inlormation sessions led by canine behaviorists to promole responslble dog ownership and prevent dog bites. Financial Review The trustees have reviewed budgets for the upcoming year and are confident that funds are sufficient to Gontinue operations. Going Concern: The charity remains financially stable, with adequate resources lo meet its objeclives In the coming year. Governance and Structure Govemlng Document: Lucy's Trust operates under Its Conslilution, wilh oversight provided by the trustee board. Tru8toe Recrultment: Trustees are elected by the board al the Annual General Meeting, with unanimous agreement required for appointment. Organlsatlonal Structure: The charty Is govern8d by its trustees and managed by Director Dr. Olivla Kennedy. Pay and Remuneratlon: No trustees received pay or remuneralion during this financial year. Accurate accounting records to detail transactions and safeguard assets. Closing Remarks Despite challenges, Lucy's Trust has continued to provide essential seNices to PJome of the most vulnerable dogs in our community.
