## Charity Structure, Governance and Management

> _Type of Governing Document_ Constitution adopted January 2016 _How the Charity is Constituted_ Association of paid up Members

> _Trustee Selection Methods_ Trustees are appointed or reappointed annually at the Annual General Meeting. This year we held this in January 2018

## _**Additional Governance Issues**_

There is a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy in place – updated, revised and adopted on February 2016.

Criminal record checks (Access NI) are carried out on commencement of volunteer and/or trustee appointment. These checks are carried out again every two years in line with statutory requirements.

St Mary’s Altinure Youth Club is a member of Youth Action Northern Ireland which provides helpful advice and keeps us informed of opportunities for training and legislative changes. Our membership is renewed every April.

St Mary’s Altinure Youth Club also works closely with Learmount Drop Inn for teenagers, and the local Learmount Community Development Group and the Rural Area Partnership in Derry to explore opportunities for joint programmes with other groups.

St Mary’s Altinure Youth Club rents the use of a local hall (from the Park Hall Committee) to carry out its activities. Additionally, at the end of this reporting period it has taken on the former soccer club house in Park to use as a permanent Members Only Club House.

All trustees and leaders give their time voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits.

The trustees are assisted by parents of members – who take turns in helping to supervise the children during their activities.

A Volunteer Policy, and Diversity Policy were adopted by the Trustees at the AGM 1[st] February 2018.

## Objectives and Activities

|_Objects of the Charity as stated_|1 - To provide opportunities for young people aged 8 - 13 to come together for|
|---|---|
|_in our Constitution_|play, to advance their social and personal skills and to explore issues that are|
||relevant to this age group. These young people will be drawn from Park Village|
||and its surrounding areas.|
||2 - To provide a programme of social, spiritual, educational and recreational|
||activities within a safe and secure environment which will meet the needs of|
||young people aged 8 – 13|
|_Main Activities Undertaken for_|In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s|
|_the public benefit in relation to_|guidance on public benefit at our Trustee meetings.|
|_these objects._|The focus of activities remains providing a safe and secure environment for a|
||programme of youth events and activities. This benefits young people by|
||developing their self-confidence and social skills alongside life skills such as our|
||indoor games and  swimming.|
||We welcome all young people regardless of background, faith, gender or|
||personal circumstances. This philosophy enhances and enriches everyone|
||involved in the Club including volunteers, trustees and parents.|

## _**Additional Notes**_

A great contribution is made by our members parents/guardians who volunteer weekly to help with supervising activities. We are grateful for the many hours given listening and encouraging our young people, and to the volunteer trustees who help to run the club annually.

Any surplus funds not needed to pay for activities are placed on deposit to earn interest. As our grants are less than expenditure we have been unable to do this during this time.

## Accidents during the year- None

## Future Plans

As noted last year - The trustees acknowledge the important EA grant the Club is in receipt of and recognise that the entire grant is used to hire transport for swimming, hence leaving no scope for material investment.

It remains intention of the Trustees to continually review this over the coming years with an eye to increasing the benefits gained from spending the grant.

We will continue to monitor and develop our activities over the coming period and identify improvements.
