Trustees, Annual Re ort for the ear endecl 31.03.23 The Trustees present the Annual Report and Stal ements of Receipts and Payments and st Assets and Liabilities f or Friends of Sydenham Cckurt for the year ended 31 March 2023 Ob'ectives and Activities The charitable purpose of Friends of Sydenham Court Associatton is to promote for the benef it of the tenants of Sydenham Court and f oi" the wider community of Sydenham Court, the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation in the interests of soctal welfare of the tenants of SydE'nham Court who have need of such facilities by reason of their inf irmity, mental health or disablement and with the object of improving the conditions of life of the said tenanls of Sydenham Court without distinction of a9e, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnic origiri, political or religious opinion. Achievements Per ormance & Public 8enefit Subject to any relevant Covid-19 restrictions, the. trustees have ensured over the past year that the Friends of Sydenham Court Association continues in their main function of raising funds for activities, outings, equipment anid facilities for the benef it and well-being of the tenants of Sydenham Court, Belfast who ar'e living with dementia, The committee of the Friends of Sydenham Court Association wish to sincerely thank all family members, carers, local people and businessi>S along with the dedicated staf f of Sydenham Court and Clanmil Housing Association Ivho have supported or donated to the Association over the year to help benef it the well-being of the residents of Sydenham Court. Princi ol Fundraisin Activities b the Associati?n Post the Covid-19 pandemic, no face to face signif icant f undraising such as the regular autumn bucket collection at Kingspan Stadium has taken place but other grant funding has been secured and investlgation of other funding Si)urces continues. Fortunately the securing of a 5-year Big Lottery F'eople & Communities grant back in November 2019 has provided a small ongoing annu(Il income source for the Association's activities but the Association notes that the term of this signif icant grant shall soon expire. The Association greatly appreciates the on90in9 rÉ:ceipt of monetary and equipment donations f rom existing and previous tenants and "-heir families. Activities Full or Partiall S onsored b the A:>sociation: Weekly Ref reshments and items for in-house small group activities such as quizzes, crafts, balloon badminton, boccia, and remlniscence sessions and also f or Tuesday Lunch and Friday Fish & Chip Clubs (when operational).

Supplies for Beauty Box used in beauty, relaxation & pamper sessions Musical entertainment sessions by a variety of musicians (eg Joe Allen and Tom the Music Man). Circus skills entertainer. On90ing regular maintenance of tropical f ish tank purchased by the Association in t)ec '20 Monthly Late Spring '22 Easter music entertainment. Small group attended a concert at the Waterf ront. Professional landscape architect's fees f or central garden landscape scheme. En9age with Age art project. The Queen's Jubilee celebrations. Summer Saturday bus trips to: Castle Espie, Eden Pottery, Irish F.A, Stadium tour, Woodlawn Nursery & Kinedale Donkey Sanctuary, Red berry Cafe (Bangor) & coastal drive, Chocolate making at Aunt Sandra's Candy Factory, Maxi Moo Caf e in Millisle, Hillsborou9h Castle & Gardens. (Unfortunately numbers per trlp were limited to 8 residents by Trust transport Covid 'restrictrons'} A family BBQ was also enjoyed in the central courtyard at Sydenham Court. Summer '22 Autumn '22 Halloween party and pumpkin carving session. Small group attended Pantomime show. Alzheimer's Society's Elf Day event La Mon House Hotel Festive event & Dinner. Chrrstmas Party f or tenants, staff and their fami lies. In-house Christmas dinner for tenants remaining at Sydenham Court with no local family members. Early Sprrng '23 Arts projects. A way-day trip f or tenants whi 1st essential flooring refurbishment work carried out in building. Relocation of f tsh tank to main reception f oyer area. Unfortunately, for a considerable period this year, the communal areas of the Sydenham Court buildin9 have been subject to a lengthy building ref urbishment programme. This has meant that, due to the lack of furniture and available areas, there has been limited opportunity for communal activities for the tenants. Instead, the staf f and visiting providers have generally been involved in activities with smaller sized group sessions. Unf ortunately the BH&SST post of Activities Co-ordinator at Sydenham Court, whrch has remained vacant since February 2021, has still not been f illed. The Association sincerely hopes that this vital post aimed at helping improve the sense of well- being of the tenants (which is also pivitol to the focus and activities of the

Association) is f illed soon and look forward tc working closely with whoever is appointed. The Association is particularly gratef ul to th(> management and staf f of Sydenham Court who have continued to organise activiti(>s and outings f or the tenants within any Covid 'restriction' constraints in addition 'to their normal duties and pressures which were already greatly increased as a result of the pandemic and it's impact on staff ing levels. Financial Review The Association shall continue to investlgate avenues for f undraistng methods to help support activities for the residents of Sydenham Court. Refer to Statements of Receipts and Payments aiid Assets and Liabilitres f or Friends of st Sydenham Court for the f inancial year ended 31 March 2023 under separate cover To date it has not been found necessary f or the Ilssociation to levy a fee to members despite this being permissible under the Constitution. In order to provide reasonable assurance a9ainst risk of f inancial mis-management, f rom the outset the Assoctation had introduced interniil administrative controls including ensuring two authorised si9natories f or all payments by cheque or online bank transfer. Structure Governance and Mana ement The governing document for Association is the Ccnstitution of Friends of Sydenham Court Association originaify adopted on 03.11.15. with a :>ubsequent revision bein9 formally adopted on 30.01.18. The Association is managed by a Committee elect?d f rom the membership of the Association and include representatives as Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer nominated and appointed f rom the committee. Cur'rently all committee of f ice bearers are Charity Trustees. Recruitment and A ointment of Trustees Any members of the Association are invtted to be elected as Committee Members. ard Remuneration No member of the Assocration receives pay or reinuneration f rom the Friends of Sydenham Court Association.

Com liance with Public Benef it The trustees of the Friends of Sydenham Court have carefully considered the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's statutory guidance on public benef it to ensure that the activities entered into during the year have f urthered the Association's objectives, for the public benef it. Statement of Trustees, Res onsibilities The trustees are responsible for preparin9 the Trustees, Report and the Statement of Receipts and Payments and Statement of Assets and Liabilities in accordance with applicable law and regulations. The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland with Income of less than £250,000 requires the trustees to prepare a statement of receipts and payments and a statement of assets and liabilities for each f inancial year. The trustees are responsible f or keeping accounting records that are suf f icient to show and explain the Association's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the assets and liabilities of the Association. They are also responsible f or safeguardin9 the assets of the Association and hence f or taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of f raud and other irregularities.
