NORTH BELFAST FUSTORICAL SOCIETY NIC 102097 TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2022-2023 The objcctive of thc Socicty, as set out in the Constitution is the advanccment of education by promoling interest in local history with a focus on tho North Belfast area. The Society operates in North Belfast but visitors from anywhere are encouraged and welcome to attend our meetings. We invite specialist speakers to give talks and presentations on a variety of topics, usually followed by a question-and-answer session. In setting the objectives and planning the activities for the year, the Trustees considered the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance.on public benefit to ensure that the activities have helped to achieve the Society's purposcs and provide a benefit to thc beneficiarics. The Society is opcn to all regardless of faith. race or personal circumstances. A successful series of nine monthly talks were held from September 2022 to May 2023. Topics covered included: The Merchant Families of Belfast as viewed through their Memorials in Belfast City Cemetery Biblical Architecture The History of St Malachy's College The Tribulations of Two Victorian Railway Companies 'rhe Vikings in Ireland Thc Cavchill Killyleagh Herbert Hughes: Composer, Organist, Arranger of Irish Folk Songs The following served as trustees: Daphne Mcclements (Chairperson), Timothy Wilson (Secretary), Colin Bell, Anne Fitzpatrick Quintin Mulligan, Ruth Starrett, Margi Crawtord, Rosemary Johnston, Patsy Rainey and Pauline Tohill.
