## Annual Report

## Charitable Purposes

The declared charitable purposes of the Ministry for Europe Trust are:

the advancement of the Evangelical Christian Faith, the advancement of education, the relief of poverty, the advancement of community development, and the improvement of the holistic life of communities in countries within Europe and carried out exclusively in a manner that is beneficial to the public and is recognised by the law of Northern Ireland as being charitable.

## Charity Governance

The charity trustees, who are also directors for the purposes of the Companies Act, are responsible for the management and the day-to-day running of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits in their role as trustees.

## Financial Review

Total income for the year amounted to £73,461 (prior year, £34,307) with total expenditure of £57,173 (prior year, £34,759) resulting in a surplus of £16,288 (prior year, deficit £452). As a result, the year-end cash balance increased to £31,279. Income in 2024/25 was significantly higher than prior years due to the receipt of a substantial legacy, which is not expected to be repeated in 2025/26. The increase in the year-end cash balance is due only to not all the legacy income having been distributed, however, it is anticipated that this will occur in 2025/26 thereby reducing the cash balance to the target level of 40% of annual expenditure, which the Trustees consider to be an acceptable level of reserves to meet emergency needs as they arise.

## Achievements and Performances

During the year, MET continued to support partners engaged in the promotion of the Christian faith and the well-being of people primarily in Ireland (NI & Rol), Israel and Ukraine, while seeking to further encourage Christian testimony in Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, and Spain, amongst other countries. Grants totalling £49,502 (86.6% of total expenditure) were made over the course of the year.

Trustees were able to visit several of the supported individuals and organisations in Ireland (NI & Rol) to encourage them in their work and to enable Trustees to make informed decisions when determining the level of grant to award. Whilst no in-person visits to partners in mainland Europe were made during the year, regular and frequent contact was maintained via telephone, email and social media to ensure that the directors / trustees were aware of developments and needs.

The following are typical of the work which MET grants have supported over the year:

## Ireland:

2024/25 saw an increased level of grants to partners working in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and this has been driven mainly by the increasing number of refugees from Eastern European and other countries fleeing to the island. Indeed, whereas historically MET sought to reach out to partners operating in many of these countries, in more recent times these spiritually and materially needy people have arrived “on

our doorstep”. MET has been privileged to provide finance to partners who are providing both humanitarian and spiritual help to these people and wishes to continue to support them to the extent that it is able.

## Israel:

MET has previously reported on the pioneering work of known partners in reaching out to sex workers and substance abusers in Israel, particularly in Tel Aviv and Be’erSheva, but also other cities such as Ashkelon and Haifa. In 2024/25, MET was able to provide further grant assistance to this work, which brings direction into the lives of individuals as well as helping to relieve the suffering of their children and families. We wish to continue to financially support these unique, laudable, and on-going works, which bring together Israelis, Arabs, and Russians.

## Moldova:

Our partner in Moldova continues to operate a variety of community focussed ministries which are also opportunities to present the Christian message. MET was again able to provide grants towards meeting the cost of free distribution of New Testaments and other Christian literature in the language of the recipients.

## North Macedonia:

MET’s partner in North Macedonia travels long distances to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to teach and encourage small groups of Christians in remote rural areas, as well as meeting very practical needs such as the heating of church buildings in the cold winter months. Annual summer camps for the poorest of children were again freely offered and some 80 children attended. There, they were given new clothes, fed well, offered any required medical help and teaching from the Bible. These works are on-going and MET wishes to continue to financially support them.

## Ukraine:

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has impacted all in that country, not least those living on the eastern side closest to the border with Russia. MET was able to provide a significant grant to known partners who are working in that dangerous region, reaching out to meet the spiritual and humanitarian needs.

The majority of the above projects are on-going, and we look forward to being able to visit them once again and to see the lives of more people changed, as well as the local living conditions built to allow a greater standard of living in some of the most deprived areas of Europe.

On behalf of all who so selflessly supported the work of MET over the course of the year in any way, we give our heartfelt thanks. rc Approved and authorised for issue by the Board on wht, MAVPRBR.. Jee and signed on its behalf by:
