The Trustees of the County Armagh Protestant Orphzn Society are pleased to present thelr 155
Annual Report in respectof the yearended 31 December 2022.

Trustees who acted during the year are as follows: The M05t Rev. John McDowell, the Revd Canon
William Adair, the Revd Canon Neville Hughes, the Venerable Terence Scott, the Revd C3non
Teren￿ Cadden, the Very Revd shane Forster, the Revd Canon Malcolm Kingston, Mrs H. Galway.
The Executive Committee met in person for the first time 5incethe COVID pandemlc on Monday 5
Detsmber 2022. The resignations of Canon Hughes 3nd Mrs Galway were received at the meetlng.
The death in December 2021 has been since reported of Mr Harry Anderson, who was first elected
tothe Committee in 1988.

The purpose of the Society isto prowde direct financial help to young members of the Church of
Ireland who have been orphaned in County Armagh and, with discretion, to assist other orphans in
special circumstances.
The Society pays grants on behalf of young people in the Church of Ireland, one or both of whose
parents deceased. All applications for benefit are considered aftersubmission of a form certified by
the Clergy of the Parish to which the applicant belongs.
The Trustees have regard to the public benefit statutory guidance produced bythe Charities
Commission when engaged In the activitles of the Soclety.
The Society would again Ilke to thank all of those Parishes and groups who supportthe work of the
Society in assisting orphans ￿11th1n the County. The Society needs more contributions to meet the
demands upon it 3S It is paying out more in grants and expensesthan tt receives. Parishes are asked
to continue and, If possible, increase their support.
In 2022 the Society ha5 provided assistance to nine young people to a total value of £7,425. Income
from parishes, however, amounted only to £3,637.
On 31" December 2022, the Society had cash reserves of £47,141 (£38,146 at end of 2021) and
equty investments valued at £267,466 (£316,552 at end of 2021).
Rectrjrs are reminded that app5ication forms for grants on beEialf of those eligible should be made
each year, the applicatlon forms being returned to the Hon. Treasurer before the beginning of
March.

LNDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE CHARJTY TRUSTEES OF THE
COUNTY ARMAGH PROTESTANT ORPHAN SOCIETY
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2022.
Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner:
As the charity's trustees you ar¢ responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with
the Charities Act (Northern treland) 2008.
It is my responsibility to:
examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act,
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under
section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act
to state whether particular matters have cotne to rny attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report:
I have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my
examination was carried out in accordance wÉth the general Directions given by the Charity
Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act.
My examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of
the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or
disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as ch￿lty trustees concerning any such
rnatters.
My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe:
l . That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act
2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records.
3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act
4. Tliat there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters (l) to (4) listed above
and, in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, I
have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.
