Crumlin United Senior Citizens Club was set up over 20 years ago by a small number of local volunteers, who felt there was a great need in the rural community for a place where people could meet and socialise.
Crumlin United Football Club has always been a community centre of sorts, and they offered their Lounge room free of charge and continue to do so today. We are so grateful for their support.
Our year begins in September, and we meet every other Wednesday 2.00-4.00pm. We initially charged £2.00 per session but at the request of our members raised it to £3.00 in September. The money is used for a £5.00 Bingo Prize each session, an ongoing Jackpot Prize and to help subsidise our annual summer outing and lunch.
We have approximately 8-10 volunteers, who not only give of their time but also provide the afternoon tea e.g. sandwiches, cake, biscuits, tea, coffee etc at their own expense.
The afternoon session consists of Bingo, Afternoon Tea, Quiz/Boccia and regular inputs from PSNI/Fire Service on safety and Bank Officials with information on scams etc
Throughout the year we provide extra treats on special occasions such as Halloween, Christmas, Easter and our annual trip and lunch out before we break up for the summer.
The club gives Senior Citizens the opportunity to meet up with those of similar age. It helps foster new friendships and friendship groups. We have approximately 30 Senior Citizens who regularly attend.
