Crumlin United Senior Citizens Club was set up over 16+ years ago by a small number of local volunteers, who felt that there was a great need in this rural community, for a place where people could meet and socialise. 

C.U.F.C has always been a community centre of sorts in Crumlin, and it was no surprise that they offered their lounge free of charge for seniors to meet. The Club continues to do this and as you can see in our list of events this past year, C.U.F.C has also funded an outing to Ballycastle and one to the Theatre.  We continue to be very grateful to them. 

Our year begins in September, and we meet every other Wednesday 2-4pm. We collect £2.00 from members - £1.00 for the bingo prize/snowball and the other towards an end of year outing or meal. We have a group of 10 volunteers, who not only give of their time, but who also provide afternoon tea i.e. sandwiches, cake, biscuits etc at their own expense. Our sessions consist of Bingo, Afternoon Tea, Boccia and on occasions input from the Police, Fire Service and Bank officials to keep everyone up to date and safe. 

Throughout the year on special occasions e.g. Halloween, Christmas, Easter and Summer, we have special parties and entertainment. Each year we try to have a ‘Day Out’ subsidised by our £1.00 donations. 

## **Summary of this year’s actvites** 

- 7/9/22 Two course meal & entertainment in a local restaurant (33 attended) 19/10/22 Halloween Afternoon Tea Party & discussion of suggested activities moving forward e.g. Armchair Keep Fit, Boccia, Quiz, Guest Speakers. 

- 16/11/22 Volunteer meeting to discuss/plan the Christmas event. 14/12/22 Christmas Party 4.00-7.00pm – food & entertainment. Music paid for by Robert Mc Quiston Antrim & Newtownabbey Council Representative 

- 8/2/23 Volunteer meeting to discuss & plan summer outing on 17/5/23 to ‘Lime Park’ restaurant Ballycastle and Ulster Hall Concert. 

- 6/4/23 Easter Celebration Tea 17/5/23 Day Trip to Ballycastle (coach & expenses paid for by C.U.F.C) 14/6/23 End of Year event – Tea, Quiz etc 7/9/23 Next meeting

## **Benefts** 

Our club gives senior citizens the opportunity to: 

- Meet people of a similar age, establish connections and build a support network. 

- Foster new friendships and enhance well-being e.g. _6/8 ladies now meet regularly on a Monday for tea/coffee_ 

- Care for others, fostering positive self-worth and a sense of community e.g. 

_Yearly Macmillan Coffee Morning_
