We are recognised for tax purposes by HMRC in line with paragraph 1, Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010 (HMRC
number Nl 00602).
We rely wholly on donations and are gratefvl lo all our supporters who have given freely and generously. Without their
help we would be unable lo fulfil our stated purposes.
The Trustees. Report contains the information required lo be provided in the Trustees, Annual Report under the
Statement of Recommended Practice {SORP} guidelines. The trustees of the charity are also charity trustees for the
purpose of charity18w and under the charity's constitution are known as members of the board of truslees.
In this report the trustees of Northern Ireland Pertnatal Trust present a summary of its purpose. governance. activities,
achievements and finances for the financial year 31 March 2024.
The charity is a registered charity and although not obliged to comply with the Statement of Recommended Practice
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland FRS 102, the organisalion has implemented ils recommendations where
relevant in these financial $18tements.
Mission, Objectives and Strategy
Misslon Statement
What we do (our Pufposes)
We help purchase medical and other equipment for the Regional Neonatal Unit, Royal Maternity Hospital, Belfast.
We support education and training of staff in the Regional Neonatal Unit, Royal Maternity
Hospital. Belfast by funding attendance at COnferen￿S. courses and in lertiarylprofessional education.
We support research into problems of newbom babies in Northem Ireland, by providing lop-up funding for
consumables or short-tem staff salaries.
Whom we benefit
Our primary beneficiaries are babies from all over Northern I￿rand. These a￿ often premature or very sick newbom
babies.
The intended benefits to these babies are improvements in their health and welfare, and better health outcomes
including improved survival.
Benefits can be measured in a variety of ways induding.. feedback from parents and staff.. annual unit stati51ics,' local
benchmarking within th& Nl neonatal network and
nationallinternalional benchmarking within the Vermont-oxford Neknrk and 0th8r national registers.
There are incidental bene)Ils to the babies, parents and families as a result of improved sutvlval. There are incidental
benefils to staff in the Regional Unit, including professional
development and training that gnables them lo do their jobs better.

What we did in 2023-24
A detailed financial report can be accessed on the Northern Ireland Charities commission
website. Unfortunately in the past staff aGlivitie5 were impacted by COVID 19. However the year to April 2024 saw
Significantly MO￿ activity than Ihe previous year. We have provided funding for the following areas in keeping with our
purposes..

Local Courses=
Running of the Belfast Newborn Life Support (NLSI Course.. this is a Resuscitation Council
(UK) - accredited national resuscitation course run 24 times per year. Annual outlay
includes registration with RC {UK), purchase of course tnanuals. upkeep of teaching
equipment and reimbursement of instructor expenses. During the year 2023124 the course ran on 12th and 13th
September 2023.
Research
No studies were supported.

expenditure in greater detail.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES. RESPONSIBILITIES
for the financial year ended 31 March 2024
The trustees are responsible for preparing the financial slalements in accordance with applicable law and regulallons.
The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each
financial year which give a true and fair view of the assets, liabilities and financial position of the charity as at the
financial year end dale and of the surplus or deficit of the charity and otherwise comply with the Charilies Act
(Northern Ireland} 2008.
In preparing these financial slalemenls, the trustees are required lo..
select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently.,
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP
make judgements and accounting eslimales that are reasonable and prudent..
slate whether the financial statements have been prepared in accordance with applicable accounllng standards,
identify those standards, and note the effect and the reasons for any material departure from those sl8ndards,' and
prepare the financial slalements on the going concem basis unless it is in8pproprlate lo presume that the charity
will continue in operation.
The trustees confimi that they have complied with the above requirements in preparing the financial statements.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the
charitys Ir8ns8Ctions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and
enable them lo ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. They are
also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hen￿ for taking reasonable steps for the prevention

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF NORTHERN IRELAND PERINATAL TRUST
I have examined the financial slalements of the charity for the financial year ended 31 March 2024, whlch comprise
the Statement of Financlal Aclivilies, the Balance Sheet and the related notes.
This report is made solely lo the charfty's members, as a body. in accordance wtlh the Charities Act (Northern Ireland)
2008. My work has been undertaken so that I might compile the financial slalemenls that I have been engaged lo
compile, report lo the Board of Trustees that I have done so, and slate those matters that I have agreed lo state to
them in this report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law. I do not accept or assume
responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity's members, as a body, for my work, or for this report.
Respè¢tive responslbilitios of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in a¢¢ordance with the
requirements of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required
for this financial year under the Charities Act (Northem Ireland) 2008 and that an independent examination is
required.
It is my responsibility to-
examine the financial statements under section 65 of the Charities Act.,
follow the procedures laid down by the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland
under section 65(9llbl of the Charities Act., and
slate whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
I have examined your charity financial slalements as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and my
examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern
Ireland under section 65(9llb) of the Charities Act. An examillation includes a review of the accounting records kept
by the charity and a comparison of the financial slat8menls presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations from the
trustees conceming any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be
required in an audit and consequendy no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair. view
and the report is limited to those matters sel out in the statement below.
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me cause lo believe that in, any

GENERAL INFORMATION
Northern Ireland Perinatal Trust is an unincorporated ¢harity in Northern Ireland. The prlnciple office of the
charity is cjo NICU Royal Maternity Hospital, Grosvenor Road, Belfast. Co Antrim, BT12 6BB. The financial
statements have been presented in Pound 1£) whi¢h is also the functional currency of the charity-
SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES
The following accounting policies have been applied consistently in dealing with items which are considered
material in relation to the charity's financial statements.
Basis of preparation
The financial statemenls have been prepared on the going concern basls under the historlcal cost convention.

with the Statement of Recommended Practice {SORPI "Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their
accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
FRS 102" applying Section 1A of that Standard.
As permitted by the Companies Act 2006, the charity has varied the standard fomals in that act for the
Slalement of Financial Activities and the Balance Sheet. Departures from the standard formals are lo comply
with the requirements of the Charities SORP and are in compliance with section 4.7, 10.6 and 15.2 of that
SORP.
Statement of ¢ompliance
The financial statements of the charity for the financial year ended 31 March 2024 have been prepared on the
going concem basis and in accordance with the Slalement gf Recommended Practice ISORPI 'Accounling
and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Stsndard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland FRS 102. applying Section 1A of that Standard.
Fund accountlng
The following are the categories of funds maintained..
RestriGted funds
Restricted funds represent incorne received which can only be used for particular purposes, as specified by
the donors. Such purposes are within the overall objectives of the charity.
Unrestrlctod funds
Unrestricted fvnds consist of General and Designated fvnds.
Gener21 funds represent amounts which are expendable at the discrekn'on of the board, in furtherance of the
objectives of the charity.
Designated funds comprtse unrestri¢ted funds that the board has, al its discretion, set aside for particular
purposes. These designations have an administrativ8 purpose only, and do not legally restrict the board's
discretion to apply the fund.
Income
Income is recognised by inclusion in the Ststement of Financial Acllvities only when the charity is legally
enlilled to the income. perf0mlan￿ conditions attached to the itemls) of income have been mel, th8 amounts
involved can be measured with sufficient reliability and il is probable that the income will be received by the
charity.
Income from charitable activities
Income from ¢harilable activities include income eamed from the supply of services under contractual
arrangements and from performance related grants which have conditions that specify the provision of
particular services to be provided by the charity. Income from governmenl and other co-funders Is recognised
when the charity is legally entitled to the income because it is fulfilling the conditions contained In the related
funding agreements. Where a grant is received in advance, it5 recognition is deferred and included in
cre(Jitors. Where entitlement occurs before income is received, it is accrued in debtors.
Grants from govemments and other co-fvnders typically Include one of the followlng types of conditions:
Perfomiance based conditions: whereby the charity is contractually enlttled to funding only to the extent thal
the COTe objectives of the grant agreement are achieved. Where the charity is meeting the CO￿ objectives of a

grant agreement, it recognises the related expenditure. to the extent that it is reimbursable by the donor, as
income.
Time based condllions.. whereby the charity is contractually entitled to fundlng on the condition that il is
ulilised in 2 particular period. In these cases the charity recognises the income to the extent it is ulili5ed within
the period specified in the agreement.
In the absence of such conditions, assuming that receipt is probable and the amount can be reliably
measured, grant income is recognised once Ihe charity is notified of enlillement.
Grants received towards c8Pital expenditure are credited lo the Statement of Financial Activities when
received or receivable, whichever is earlier.
Expendlture
Expenditure is analysed between costs of charitable activities and raising funds. The costs of each activity are
separately accumulated and disclosed. and analysed according to their major components. Expenditure is
recognised when a legal or constructive obligation exists as a result of a past event, a transfer of economic
benefits is required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be reliably measured. Support costs
are those functions that assist the work of the charity but cannot be attributed to one activity. Such costs are
allocated lo activities in proportion to staff lime spent or other suitable measure for each activity.
Cash at bank and in hand
Cash at bank and in hand comprises cash on depostt at banks requiring less than three months notice of
withdrawal.
Taxation and deferred taxation
No current or deferred taxation arises as the charity has been granted charitable exemption. Irrecoverable
valued added tax is expensed as incurred.
The charity is exempl from tax on its charitable activities.
