Northern Ireland Perinatal Trust Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2023 The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity lor the year ended 31 March 2023, The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effeclive l January 2019). Who we Are The Northern Ireland Perinatal Trust (operating as the Perinatal Trust Fund (NI)), is a small local charity registered with the Charity Commission for Northern treland (NICIOI 993, see http.'l/www.charitycommissionni.org.uk/charitydctailsl?regid=101993&subid=O). We are recognised for tax purposes by HMRC in line with paragraph I, Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010 (HMRC number Nl 00602). We rely wholly on donations and are gratefijl to all our supporters who have given freely and g¢n¢rously. Without their help we would be unable to fulfil our stated purposes. OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectlv¢5 and ¥4ims What we do (our purposes) We help PLwchase medical and other equipment for the Regional Neonatal Unit, Royal Maternity Hospital, Belfast. We support education and training of staff In the Regional Neonatal Unit, Royal Maternity Hospital, Belfast by funding attendance at conferences, courscs and in terliarylprofe.8sional education. We support re8earch into problem8 of newborn babies in Northern Ireland, by providing top-up funding for consumables or short-tcrn] staff salarie4. Publfic benefit Whom we benefit Our primary beneficiaries are babies from all over Northern Ireland. These are often premature or very sick newborn babies. The intended bencfits to these babies are improvements in their health and welfare, and better health outcomes including improved survival. Benefits can be measured in a variety of ways including: feedback from parents and staff. annual unit statistics. local benchmarking within the NI nconatal nctwork and nationallintCrn<ltional bcnchmarking within thc Vennont-oxford Nctwork and other national registers. There are ineidcntal benefits to thc babies, parents and familics as a result of improved survival, Thcre are incidental benefits to staff in the Regional Unit, including professional development and training that enables them to do their jobs better. UnfortLmately in the past staff activities continued to be impacted by COVID 19. However the year to April 2023 saw significantly more activity than the previous year. Northern Ireland Perinatal Trust Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2023 OWECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Local Courses: Running of the Belfast Newborn Life Support (NLS) Course: this is a Resuscitation Council (UK) - accredited national resuscitation course run 2-4 times per year. Annual outlay includes registration with RC (UK), purchase of course manuals, upkeep of teaching equipment and reimbursement of instructor expenses. During the year 2022123 the course ran on 13th & 14th September 2022 & 6th and 7th March 2023. Research No studies were supported. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019),, Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicdble in thc UK and Rcpublic of Ireland, and thc Charities Act (Northern treland) 2008. The financial statements have boen prcpared under thc historical cost convcntion. Income All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured r¢liably. xpenditure Liabilitics are r¢cogniscd as cxpenditure as soon as thcre is a legal or constrnctive obligation committing the charity to that cxp¢nditure, it is probable that a transfer of cconomic bcncfits will be required in settlcment and thc amount of the obligation can bc measurcd reliably. Expcnditurc is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that awegate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. Taxydtion The charity is cxempt from tax on Ats charitable activities. Fund accounting Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
