Hope Mission Zambia’s Trustees Report
April 2023 – March 2024
Overview of Hope Mission Zambia
Hope Mission Zambia was established in early 2016 as an initiative to work with impoverished communities in Lusaka, Zambia.
We recognise that education is a powerful tool with which to equip young people, no matter where they are in the world, to reach their full potential in life and also to help improve communities as a whole.
In Zambia, as in some other countries, children as young as five or six years can be removed from school to care for family members or to perform chores for the household. Education is not seen as a priority. Classrooms or schools can be just a bare floor in a condemned building, teachers are often unpaid and basic school supplies are non-existent.
Hope Mission Zambia initiated an innovative programme that has seen a school in Mapepe, Lusaka, Zambia built and equipped and the value of education raised in the consciousness of the local community. This programme will continue to support and strengthen the community infrastructure and provide opportunities for young people to gain the confidence, skills and knowledge to fully participate in their own community and society. Hope Mission Zambia are providing the tools to make this vision easier to achieve.

What Hope Mission Zambia has achieved
From April 2023 – March 2024 Hope Mission Zambia’s main purpose was to maintain and improve a school that had been provided for the area and to equip that school to help advance education in Mapepe. The main bulk of that work was achieved 7 years ago when 20 volunteers raised funds and went to Mapepe and physically carried out the work required with the help of the community. The Blessed Hope School was rebuilt and all necessary work carried out. School supplies were provided, from desks to pencils. This year we improved that school by installing proper ceilings and tiled over the concreete floor. We also had to replace a security wall around the school. Funding was provided for teachers who can at times go unpaid and school supplies and equipment were upgraded and supplied as needed.
Extra-Curricular activities are every bit as important as the academic side so our volunteers introduced the children to netball and of course football 5 years ago and lost every game this year as the children ran rings around them. Sports builds confidence and teamwork in children and should be encouraged.
All these small things that we take for granted are so important in the development of children and we feel that the community in Mapepe are more aware of this since our involvement with them.
The community and the children in particular have great pride in what they have and appreciate every little thing. The Blessed Hope School in Mapepe, Zambia is a comfortable, colourful and safe place for young children to attend, get an education and have a better chance to become productive citizens of their community. This meets the Public Benefit requirement.
Each year we develop our programme according to the needs of the children of Blessed Hope School and are in constant contact with the school to ensure the Project continues to develop and remains at the heart of the community.
This year we have also helped a Boy’s Home in the area and have provided much needed equipment and clothing. This is a part of the Project which will be developed further and we will seek to strengthen links with the Boy’s Home.
We finally want to thank all our brave Volunteers who fundraise and take time out of their lives to go to Zambia to aid and help the Project. They always say they get more out of it than the children of Zambia but their contribution is really appreciated. To all the people who contribute to bucket collections and our justgiving page: From table quizes to raffles we thank everyone who makes this Project possible.
