The Provincial Grand Lodge of Londonderry and Donegal Masonic Welfare Fund, constituted by a declaration of Trust made the 17[th ] day of June 2004 and varied on the 14[th] day of December 2011, accepted as a charity by HM Revenue & Customs under reference number XR80514 and registered with the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland on 26[th] May 2015 under charity number NIC101907 

The charity’s purposes are; 

1. To relieve in cases of need, hardship or distress Freemasons and the widows and other dependents of deceased Freemasons principally within the Masonic Province of Londonderry and Donegal. 

2. To provide financial assistance to other duly constituted Masonic Charities. 

3. To provide financial assistance to any person or body for any charitable purpose as defined in article 2 of The Charities Act [Northern Ireland 2008]. 

The Trustees have had regard to the Public benefit guidance issued by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland.

## **For the year ended 31[st] December 2022 (cont’d)** 

During the year ended 31[st] December 2022 the charity has conducted the following activities in furtherance of its activities for the public benefit; 

1. Awarded seven grants to brethren and the families of brethren to assist with various ill health, disability and financial needs. 

2. Awarded four hundred and thirty six small grants to widows of deceased brethren to help with Christmas expenses. 

3. Made donations to the following local charity, St Vincent De Paul, The Salvation Army, and the NI Children to Lapland Trust. 

4. Made donations to two other Masonic Charities. 

The results of the charity’s activities during the year and of its position at the year-end are included in the Receipts and payments account on page 6 and the Statement of assets and liabilities on page 7.  The trustees are thankful for the support of the brethren forming The Provincial Grand Lodge of Londonderry and Donegal and their guests, through their continue donations ( during a difficult three years )which are used to further the charity’s purposes, which have been detailed above. We hope that with the ending of the COVID-19 restrictions and our meetings recommencing, our donations will recover to pre COVID levels.

We report on the accounts of The Provincial Grand Lodge of Londonderry and Donegal Masonic Welfare Fund for the year ended 31 December 2022 which are set out on pages 6 to 7. 

## **Respective responsibilities of charity trustees and examiner** 

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008. 

It is our responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts under section 65 of the Charities Act 

- follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Commission under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act 

- state whether particular matters have come to our attention. 

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** 

We have examined your charity accounts as required under section 65 of the Charities Act and our examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland under section 65(9)(b) of the Charities Act. 

Our examination included a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also included consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as charity trustees concerning any such matters. 

Our role is to state whether any material matters have come to our attention giving us cause to believe: 

1. That accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 63 of the Charities Act 

2. That the accounts do not accord with those accounting records 

3. That the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act 

4. That there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

We have completed our examination and have no concerns in respect of the matters (1) to (4) listed above and, in connection with following the Directions of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, we have found no matters that require drawing to your attention.
