The Chairperson is accountable to the Board ol Directors and responsible for the elfiei8nt running of Soulhern Area Hospice Services Ltd wilh the help ol the Chief Executiv8 and the Senior Leadership T8am. The Directors (Trusleesl are not remunerated. Thg Board Committee structure is well embedded and operating effectively. 11 is as set out below. The Cllnlc81 Governance Commlttee provides oversight and scrutiny of service provision Iclinical governance, service quality, patient safety, and clinical standards)., service performanc&,' service developm8nt and clinical leadership. Until July 2023 the committee had 5 members- 3 Board members and 2 co-optees. Following th8 resignation of the 2 co-OPle8s (due to retirement from their substantive medical workl, the Committee reduced lo 3 members. In January 2024 the Board agreed Ihe appoinlmenl of Moira Mannion lo join the Board and lo sil on this Committee given her significant and relevant senior nursing experience. The Committee is chaired by Patrick Loughran. It mel 4 times in this reporting period during which the Committee reviewed the functioning ol the previously established Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) as a sub-committ88 ol the Clinical Governanc6 Committee. In order lo ensure the continued d8V81opment of medical servic8S within the Hospice and appropriate governance and assurance, the MAC'S remil was broadened. Ils status was also chang8d lo be a Committee. under the responsibility of Ihe Director ol Care and Lead Consultant which reports to the CEO and the Clinical Governance Committee las a standing agenda item). It continues to have the remit to advise and review the granting of practising privileges for medios providing services in the Hospice. The Committee conlinu&s lo have a demanding agenda but has noted that the significant direction ol travel in improving the robustness of reports is very positive, ensuring the resources available are used and accounted lor appropriately. The Committee consists of live members ol th8 Board ol Directors and is chaired by Donna Houston. In this reporting period, the Committee mel 9 limes. The Audit and Rlsk Committee provides oversight and scrutiny of strategic risk management., internal audit; external audit,. and management responses identified by any audit process. All ol this is lo ensure th8 adequacy ol assurance for all corporate governance matters relevant to Southern Area Hospice Services. In addition. the Commill&e can request any other specilic work required to adequacy ol governance, assurance, and probity. The Committee has 3 members, 2 of whom are Board members, and th8 3rd is a co.oplee. Whilst this Committe6 was always advised r8garding Iraud and whistleblowing mallers this has now been add8d as standing agenda il8ms lo reflect good practice. Th8 Committ88 is Chaired by Monica Duffy and in this reporting period il m815 times, The Remuneration and Nomlnation8 Commlttee mel once in the reporting period and is chaired by Orla McPolin. Ils functions from a remuneration perspective are lo sel CEO and Director salaries, pay.scales lor the remainder ol the organisalion and lo ensure ¢ompliance wllh equality legislation. Ils Nomination functions ar8 10 ensurè good board governance is mainlained, lo recommend appointments lo the Board, and lo oversee the appoinlrnenl ol the CEO and Directors. The Capltal Dev•lopment and Inlra8tructure Commltlee is responsible lor ensuring that capital projects deliver the desired outcome, progress lo plan and budgèt and that key risks are identified and managed. The Committee is involved in projects from concgpi lo delivery with a locus on the capital works needed to lulureprool the 8slale requifemenls for the Hospice. 11 has 4 members - 3 Board members and 1 co.OPlee- and is chaired by Rogèr Wilson. 11 met 5 times during this reporting period. All Board members and senior managers are required lo make an annual iJe¢laralion regarding any conflicts ol interest and a schedule ol responses is maintained. In addition, the declaration ol conllicls ol interest is a standing aganda item lor 8ach meeting ol the Board and its Commillees, with all present being asked to declare il they have any conflicts of interest regarding any agenda items. Th8re were no significant mallers during the reporting period. Appointmènt ol new Tru8te•8 New Trustees are recruited by opgn recruitment by existing Directors lo fulfil specilic roles and skills on the Board. The potential Trustee is then interviewed by the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary ol the Board regarding their willingnesg to become a Trustee and their potential contribution lo th8 Hospice is considered. Following this, any potential Trustee is presented lo the Board lor their consideration and approval. There was 1 Trustee appointed during this reporting period.

They are given an overview ol thè aims, objectives, and achievements, introduced lo Ihe Chiel Executive and Senior Leadership Team, are provided with a copy ol the Memorandum and Articles ol Association. the Hospicg UK manual on Director responsibilities and delails of the recent linancial pertormance 01 tha charity. All n8W Trustees meet with other existing Trustees, and they are encouraged to attend appropriate external training evenls should they facilitate the und8rtaking of Ih8ir role, Retirement and rotation of Trustee8 The term of office of a Trustee shall be for a maximum ol three terms ol three years each. A retiring Trustee ol the board may be re-elected under these terms. Tha Trustees who retire in accordance with this regulation shall b8 thos8 who have b68n longest in office since their last election but where persons who become Trustees on the same day retire (unlèss they otherwise agreè among Ih&ms8lv8sI, thèy are determined by lot. Al the Annual General Moeling in August 2023 the following Trustees were due to retire by rolalion: Sheila Chambers, Kelly Mcveigh and Katrina O'Dowd. Sheila Chambers, whilst 81igible lor re-eleclion, stood down as a Board Member due to personal r8asons, bul was appointed as a co.oplee to th8 Audit and Risk Commillee. Kelly Meveigh and Katrina O'Dowd were 81igible and agre8d lo sland lor re-@le¢lion and were duly elected. In the reporting period Moira Mannion was elected as a Board Member in January 2024. Sheila Chamb8rs was Ihe only person who rètired Irom the Board. Oblectlve8 and Acllvitle8 The Hospice supports patients with complex, life-lirniling conditions lo livè well with their condition from the point of diagnosis right through lo end-ol-lilg. SAH provides patient-cenlered, wrap-around support lor patients, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs. It also sUPPOrts families and carers with their emotional and social needs. The Hospice's sarvices fall inlo 2 main categories.. inpatient s8rvices and community-based seNi¢es. The services in both areas are holistic in nature, comprehensively supporting the patient and their family. We have exlr8mely professional and expgrt multi-disciplinary teams who ensure that our services. bolh in the inpatient unil and community, ar8 of a high quality, evidenced based and sale. The Hospice has received funding from the Department ol Health's Cancer Charilies Support Fund lo better support patients with a palliative cancer diagnosis. This funding has enabled a further d8velopmenl of its community services lo ensure a more largeted and multi-disciplinary approach that works in a collaborative way with other service providers in Ihe Southern Trust area. This funding continued throughout the reporting period and is due to cease in November 2024. Southern Area Hospice Services Ltd Report of the Truslees Year Ended 31 March 2024 Southern Area Hospice Services Ltd is a member hospice ol Hospice UK and aflilialed with the All-lreland Inslilule of Hospice and Palliative Care. We continue lo develop links with other hospices al both a local and a national level. Publlc Benellt This has been another exceptional year du8 to the continuing cosl.of-living challenges on incom8 generation and on our operating costs. Our focus has been on continuing lo provide services in a sale and eff ective way. This Trustees report demonstrates that the Hospice has had a succ8sslul year in Ihis regard. Southern Area Hospice Services Ltd continues lo meet the definition of a public benefit enlily under FRS 102 and in line with ils charitable objectives as detailed throughout this report. Volunteer8 The charity Is involv8d in the community and is d8pend8nl on voluntary help. Our 250 volunt88rs make a huge conlribulion to the work ol the Hospic8, bringing a diversity ol skills and experience. Our volunteers contribute across many areas ol the charity including reception and adminislralive duties. helping patients al m8allimes, providing re118xology and counselling as well as transporting patients lo and from Hospic8 appointments and working in the Hospice gardens. Volunteers contribute greatly lo various fundraising activities including Ilag days, cheque presentations as well as providing general assistance with the many lundiaising 8vents. The volunteers bring an extra dimension lo the atmosphere ol the Hospice. Their skills and contribution enhance our servic8 and make an impact on th8 lives ol our patients, their families, and our stall. The Hospice could not operate wilhoul the invaluable contribution ot volunlears lo its various departments and evenls and are d8eply appreciativ6 of our voluntéers. In Gratltude The Board wish lo convey Iheir sincere thanks lo our slalf and the many volunteers who have so generously given Ihelr support lo the organisalion. With the continued support of our stall and volunteers, we look lorward lo continuing lo enhance the delivery ol our charitable services within the community. Southern Area Hospice Services Ltd Report of the Trustees Year Ended 31 March 2024 Strateglc Report A¢hlevement8 and Performance Overall The Trustees are pleased lo report that significant progress was made towards achieving Ihe Hospice's objectives Idelailed on page 6 & 7 above). The Hospice covers the Southern Health and Social Care Trust geographical area, which includes the towns ol Newry, Armagh, Dungannon, Banbridg8, Lurgan, Portadown and Craigavon. Care S8rvl¢•8 The Hospic8 provides both inpalienl and community support. The Inpalienl Clinical Team consists ol consultant's, doctors, nurses, auxiliaries, physiolherapisls, and an occupalional therapist. The Hospice Communily Outr8ach Team oller patients and their families care in Iheir home or al our Hospice Hubs in N8wry and Dungannon. These services involve patient support, carers support, counselling, bereavement support and an Out ol Hours Nursing Care al Home lor those at end ol life. The Communily Services Team consist ol nursas. social workers, chaplains, physiotherapists. and complementary Iherapisls. The Palianl and Family Support Team consists ol chaplains, social woikers, counsellors and complementary Iherapists this team works in both the Inpatient Unil and Community Services. Inpatlenl Servlce8 Our 14-bed adult In.pa118nl Unil continues lo provlde holistSc care for patients with compl8x symptoms, al end ol lifé and for respil&. A highly trained specialist multi.disciplinary team support both the patient and Iheir lamily. The locus is on the whole person, helping them not only with physical care bul also on 8motional. social, and spiritual wellbeing. Admissions increased this year from last year with 234 new admissions lo the inpallenl unit and a total 01245 patients cared lor12023: 2231. Total bed occupancy lor the year was 87,3°/o. The average length ol slay was 15.1 days. We had 167 pali8nls admitted lor the lirsl lime with 67 patient requiring repeal admissions. 148 patients were discharged back home with improved symptom managemant or lo their preferred plac8 of care. Th8 lolal amount ol inpalienl unil Iherapi8s sessions for the year was 5,781. A session is defined as the clinical or Ih8rap&ulic delivery ol care to patient, carers or bereaved. A session can be delivered individually or in a group setting and can be up lo 2 hours in duration depending on the type ol care given. Patients and their families received a total 015,006 face lo face therapeutic support sessions and 775 telèphone support sessions from our social workers, chaplains, physiotherapist, and complementary Iherapisl. Southern Area Hospice Services Ltd Report of the Trustees Year Ended 31 March 2024 Communily Services Our Community Services model of support is an inlegraled multidisciplinary community-based specialist palliative support service lor adults over the age 0118 and their families. The service provides physical. psychological, emotional, and spiritual support to patients with a palliative illness and their lamilies. The servic@ is provided in the person's hom8 or in one ol the SAHS hubs in Dungannon or Newry. Services can be delivered individtsally or as a part of group and are designed in conjunction with patient and family need. The Hospice has been able to significantly develop and expand ils community servic8S thanks lo the funding it received from the Cancer Charity Support Fund. We have had 469 new relorrals lo our Community Services over the last year and had 614 people open lo our service. We delivered 6,854 Iherapeulic sessions to pali8nls, carers, and bereaved families. 520 01 these patients or family members were impacted by cancer and 94 were impacted by non-cancer rela18d palliativa conditions. 303 Patients 144 Carerl Flelalive 167 Bereaved 1,113 Sessions were delivered al home 3,081 Sessions were delivered in one ol the hospice hubs or a Community setting. 2,660 Telephone or virtual sessions 1.118 Patient 1-2.1 Support sessions 448 Carers 1-2-1 support sessions 656 Bereavèment 1-2-1 support sessions 938 counseling se5sion8 were delivered 1.667 Complementary therapy sessions were deliver8d 1,045 s888ions ol group work. We saw a signilicanl increase in allendan¢e al these groups in the r8POrting period and feedback from allendees has been very positive. OOH Nursin Care This year in our Community Services we developed a n8w service model, namely the Out ol Hours Nursing Service.11 commenced in July 2023 and is an on-call nursing s&Nic8 lo patients at hom8 who have a cancer diagnosis and are al the end ol their lile. The service is available 36S nights per year and is available between the hours ol 10.00pm - 8.00am. This new service lor Ihe Hospice was piloted in postcode area ol BT35 and Newry City area. The service provides eff ective and timely symptom management in the last day5 of lit8.11 also equips and supports families to recognise and manage the dying process of their loved one. The seTviGe reduces loneliness and social isolation for patient and lamily provides emotional and spiritual support during what is a very diNicull lime. The service to date has supported 33 people to die at home in their prelerred place of death. The Hospice has significantly Iranslormed and developed ils community services during the reporting period, successfully moving away from the traditional day therapy support model to an integrated. multi-disciplinary, community-based specialist palliative support seNice lor adults and their families. The Hospice

The Inpalienl Manager IANP Trainee) is the Chair ot the Senior Nursing Group. Specialist Palliative Care Social Work Award commenced by 1 social worker, Msc Advanced Nurse Praclilioner Course comm8nced by 1 senior nurse. Advanced Communication training compl8led by 12 stall. Princess Alice course Ispocialisl palliative Gare qualilicalionl completed by 6 slafl. Shapes ol Grief completed by 7 stall. The Hospice has been working for several years wilh the SHSCT and Department of Health lo secure pharmacy in.house services within the Hospice. We made significant progress on this during the reporting period with a pharmacist being in post on an interim basis Irom April 2024. Inf•ellon management Whilst th8 Covid-19 pand8mic has abated signilicanlly, the Hospice conlinued to face soma Outbreaks in the last 12 months. We had implemented Government safely measures in a timely manner and continued lo adapt our ways ol working lo keep services operating in a sale way for our pa118nts, their loved ones, and our staff. Infection prevention and control manag8menl lo ensure we provided a sale environment within the constraints posed by our building reslriclions has been and remains a priority. Staff are very cornpelenl in this way of working and have ¢onlidenlly managed any emergent situations throughout the reporting p8riod. Our Team The staff within all functions ol the Hospic8 have continued to show r8siliency and commitment throughout the reporting period. The Board of Directors would lik8 to thank all staff lor Ih8ir ongoing dedication and commilmenl to the Hospice. Slaff Objectiv88 and Performance Employees are set objectives which outline their responsibilities, and which are reviewed regularly lo ensure compliance. There is an increased locus on developing staff lo slrengthen their performance and allow them lo attain their maximum po18ntial which in turn benefits the Hospice and our patients. Training is refreshed as required to ensure adherence to all requirements. During the reporting period, we have lurther develop8d the training provision for our Care S8rvices team to enhance thè skills base, knowledge, and learning. 10

Soulhern Area Hospice Services Ltd Report of the Trustees Year Ended 31 March 2024 Inspection All care services are the subj8cI of unannounc8d, annual inspections by the Regulation and Quality Improvement Aulhorily IRQIAI. The lalesl inspection look place in February 2024. We are pleased to r8POrt that the writtan feedback from this inspection was positive, particularly in relation to the quality of care provided and infection control standards.
