Annual Report for the year ended 31st December 2024 The Trustees present the annual report and statemenls of Receipts and Payments and Assets and Liabilities for Newry & Dislrict Masonic Charrty Committee for the year ended 31st De￿mber 2024 Ob"ectives and Activities The principal function of Ihe Newry & District Masonic Charity Committee is lo raise funds Ihrough the various Masonic Lodges situated within its District. It does so by promoting the benefits of fundraising to the Lodges, assisting them with collecting information about potential beneficiaries and idenlifying other SoUr￿S of income for those beneficiaries such as rate rebates. It does this Ihrough dedicated individuals within each lodge. The respective lodges identify potential beneficiaries and application forms are completed and foNarded to the Charity Committee for review. Achievements. Perfomiance & Public Benefit The Committee receives all funds raised by the Lodges, claims tax relief and distributes to beneficiaries, both Masonic and Non-masonlc. Financial Review The Committee received £31,946.79 in donations and collections during the year, including tax of £4,473.49 claimed from HMRC in respect of contributions made under the gift aid scheme. The Committee distributed £27,638 to Masonic Charities, the main recipient of which was the Down Masonic Widows Fund and donated £4,250 to other charities. Structure. Governance and Mana ement Governin Document and Constitution of the Charit The Newry & District Masonic Charity Committee is governed by the Laws and Constitution as amended and adopted at a meeting held on the 25th of November 2015 at the Masonic Hall, Downshire Road, Newry. Newry & District Masonic Charity Committee Organisational Structure The governan￿, strategy, management and administration of The Charily Comrnittee are the responsibility of a Board of Trustees elecled in accordan￿ with the constitution to act as trustees of the funds of The Charity Committee. The Committee meets three times per year and on any other occasion deemed necessary by the Board of Trustees. Compliance wlth Public Benefil The Charily Committee has given careful consideration to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit lo ensure that the activities entered into during the year have helped to achieve The Charity Committee's objectives, as well as providing public benefit. Statement of Trustees. Responslbilitles The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the stalement of receipts and payments and statement of assets and liabilities in acccrdance with applicable law and regulations. The law applicable to charities in Northern Ireland with Income of less than £250,000 requires Ihe trustees to prepare a statement of receipts and paymenls and a statement of assets and liabilitie8 for each financial year. The trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the Committee's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at an￿lme the assels and liabilities of the Charity. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularilies.
