The purposes of the organisation are to promote, protect and preserve the mental health of people who are mentally ill or have had a mental illness including people with anxiety, emotional distress, panic attacks, substance addiction and similar conditions (herein called the beneficiaries), within Northern Ireland and other areas of the United Kingdom as from time to time to determined (herein called the area of benefit) through the provision of support for self-help and to work with local authorities and voluntary organisations in a common effort to relieve their condition, provide better services, advance education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare and in particular: (a) to establish, maintain and coordinate GROW self-help support groups within the community, hospitals and other institutions, in accordance with the methods and educational programmes developed by GROW International, which foster an atmosphere of mutual support amongst beneficiaries and encourage personal growth and development , including the establishment of groups whose members are united by a specific condition, similar situation or experience; (b) to promote the preservation of good mental health and emotional health and wellbeing amongst the general population and to foster a better understanding of issues facing people with mental health issues.
