Portballintrae Residents’ Association

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on Saturday 30th March 2024 at 10.30am in Portballintrae Village Hall

  1. Attendance was 20 with apologies from David and Audrey Glasgow, Fran Milligan, Brian Nelson and Margaret Rodgers.

2. Treasurer’s Report

Gail reported that the opening balance in the Association account on 1st January, 2023 was £10,634.42 and the closing balance on 31st December 2023 was £8,926.42, a net loss of £1,708.00. Our income was £6,255.68 and our expenditure £7,963.68. Gail thanked our sponsors, Portballintrae Boat Club, The Bayview Hotel, Montgomery/Irwin, Lacuna Development and CC&G Borough Council. She also thanked all those who had provided prizes for the Coronation Raffle and those members who had donated items for the Hallowe’en hampers. Gail then explained that the Hallowe’en fireworks could only continue if we had substantial sponsorship support. Mrs. McKee said that the fireworks were much anticipated and she wondered if a greater effort could be made to make a collection on the night. Geoff explained that this had been tried in the past but the amount collected had been insignificant. Association members had too many other responsibilities on the night and nowadays people did not carry cash. The hamper raffle had attempted to address the issue. Thomas thought that an Association website would make donating much easier. A full copy of Gail’s report is attached.

3. Chairperson’s Report

Geoff’s report identified the highlights of the year, the Coronation festival, the Hallowe’en fireworks and the Xmas event and he thanked the sponsors for their generosity. He listed some of the practical achievements of the Association for the village and thanked CC&G Borough Council and its officers for their co-operation and assistance. In particular he wanted to thank Councillors Peter McCully, Sharon McKillop and Richard Stewart. One big disappointment was the continuing failure to reinstate the Ardihannon Bridge over the Runkerry Brook. Councillor Peter McCully assured the meeting that Council officers were working hard on this issue and they hoped a bridge would be in place by the summer. A full copy of Geoff’s report is attached.

4. Election of Trustees and Ofce-Bearers

On the proposal of Rosemary Kinlay, seconded by Monica Patterson it was agreed that the current committee should continue in place. Geoff Baird proposed that Thomas Gaston be added to the committee. This was seconded by Sam Turtle and agreed unanimously.

5. There being no other business, the meeting ended at 11.10am.
