Principal’s Report
I would like to commend the work and fundraising of PTA over the past year. It has been exceptional. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our outgoing committee for their commitment, resilience, and passion in ensuring the PTA continues to make a difference for all the children in Kirkinriola Primary School.
The first term of 2021/2022 started with the Kids Coffee Morning Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support. PTA provided buns and refreshments. Mrs. Dowds organized a Dojo taster sessions and these were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
In October 2021, Mrs. McCaffery held ‘P5-7 Twilight Forest School’ with the help of staff and parents and the PTA ran Harvest discos for P1-4 pupils.
In November the school hosted our annual open day and once again PTA members provided Tea and Coffee for visiting families. All received a warm welcome from the KPS Family and this continues to play an important role in the choices parents make in sending their Preschoolers to our school.
In December we enjoyed the usual festivities and the PTA paid for buses to take the whole school to see Goldilocks at the Grand Opera House, Belfast. Pupils designed Christmas cards to help raise funds in school.
The PTA once again provided selection boxes for our Santa visit and a great day was had by all.
After the Christmas holidays, PTA members steamed ahead and prepared to host a new showcase event, ‘The Kirkinriola Primary School Spring Fayre and Craft Market’. Due to ongoing restrictions and Covid-19 risk assessments, the event was held offsite at the Ballymena North Centre. The event was a huge success and many members of the wider Ballymena community commented on how amazing the school’s PTA were for putting on such an amazing event.
March was also historic for another reason, as we were visited by the Minster for Education, Michelle McIlveen. The PTA attended a meeting with the minister and once again Mrs. Campbell made a lasting impression with her world class shortbread. Pupils presented the minister with a bug hotel built by a member of the local community. The minister left impressed by the ongoing commitment of all involved in the development of Kirkinriola Primary School.
In May 2022 the school celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee with our Shared Education Partner School, St Paul’s Primary, Ahoghill.
The PTA match funded EA funding so we were able to have bouncy castles, refreshments, and a children’s entertainer for the morning. This event was enjoyed by all pupils and will be a day they will always remember.
In June the PTA provided tea and coffee, funded ice creams and bouncy castles to coincide with the end of Sports Day. This enabled families to socialise fully in the school grounds for the first time since the pandemic. It was lovely to see new families being embraced by the Kirkinriola family.
In mid-June PTA members also served tea and coffee at the P1 Induction afternoon.
As usual, our final event of the year was prize night with a whole host of entertainment on show as pupils put on Kirkinriola’s Got Talent. The PTA provided refreshments for the interval and supported school in setting up and clearing the hall. The PTA also paid for Leavers Bears that were presented to all Primary 7 pupils.

CHAIRPERSONS REMARKS
We kicked off September with the committee AGM held in the school building on 14[th] September. This was a successful evening with all posts being filled by parents of children in the school.
During October the PTA held ‘harvest hooley disco’ for the children in school. This was a great hit with the PTA providing party bags for each child. Both teachers and children had the best school night ever!!
A busy November was had with a PTA meeting on the 10th, School Open Day on the 24th and the PTA raised funds by selling fire side quizzes. Our meeting was a great success, the open day at school was enjoyed by all who attended with the PTA providing tea and biscuits for all.
In December, with the run up to Christmas the PTA provided the children with a tube of smarties which they returned full of spare change. A fun fundraiser where the children were delighted to take part in. The PTA provided the kids with a small selection box each to wish them a merry Christmas. Santa came along to give them to the kids. The PTA also donated the school £231 towards funds for classroom materials to help the teaching operation. A donation was also given to the school from the PTA to help purchase phonics type reading books. I believe they proved to be a great success. Ten electronic touch screen tablets and a C pen were purchased by the PTA and donated to the school to help keep the kids with ICT learning.

PTA
Straight in with the new year and the PTA provided the school with another 3 C pens. Nice wee start to 2022.
February seen the PTA providing the school with a new storage shed, bark to refurb the path around the grass area at school and finished February off by beginning a large garden refurb at the west side of the school building.
Starting off march had the PTA providing funds for school yard benches for the pupils and staff to sit at during recess. More technology came with 3 charging cabinets being purchased to keep the tablets charged for lessons. The big hitter came in March too with the PTA running the annual spring fair fund raiser. A great success as always with lots of faces from around the local community and plenty of tea and tray bakes for all.
April we played the easter bunny by providing the kids with easter eggs each to take home and enjoy. The PTA also held a small tractor run which was a fun night for the local young farming candidates.
In May we donated money to the school to help with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee party. This allowed the school to provide a bouncy castle, refreshments and children’s entertainment for the party.
June seen some of the PTA members putting in more hard work at the garden renovation. Their skills and volunteered time was very much appreciated by all the staff at Kirkinriola. The kids are waiting impatiently to enjoy the finished product here. Sports day was held in June too with the PTA provided the kids with a bouncy castle for fun and an ice cream each as a treat. To roll off another year at a busy wee school the PTA provided the P7 children with a leavers teddy bear, made from the pupil’s own school t-shirt and jumper it was a great keep sake they can have for ever more.
