Greater Glen Women's Group work in an area of high deprivation to promote and encourage the health and wellbeing of women in the Glen and Rosemount areas. They encourage empowerment of local women and strive to provide programmes that will enhance their lives mentally and

physically. GGWG encourages its members to become involved in a range of community activities and work closely with the young people of the area and share their skills and experiences. We offer support to all members and signpost them to relevant agencies when help and advice is needed.

Chairperson’s Report

I would like to welcome you all here to the Annual General Meeting of the Greater Glen Women’s Group.

The group was formed in June 2006 and since then local women have participated in a range of courses and initiatives all delivered locally.

With continued funding from DfC (Department for Communities), Glen Development Initiative is able to continue the valued support to Greater Glen Women’s Group.

We would like to thank Big Lottery Community Fund (through Glen Development Initiative) who funded our programmes through the 2023-2024 year. Without this funding we would have found it difficult to keep programmes running so that our members have a wide range of fun and educational experiences.

I would like to acknowledge the roles of the Committee for their continuing support and reiterate the importance of your roles in the promotion and function of the organisation over the last year so thank you so much for all your support because you are the backbone of our Women’s Group.

Our charitable purposes include: the advancement of citizenship or community development, the relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage, the prevention or relief of poverty, the advancement of education and the advancement of health or the saving of lives.

We have now expanded our group and we have a young women’s group who meet every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm.

Our group offers a wide range of activities such as flower arranging, cooking, alternative therapies, crafts and celebration events.

We would like to say a special thank you to all our members who for their help and commitment to our group, without you we would be lost.

Treasurer’s Report

I would like to thank all the members of Greater Glen Women’s Group for their continued support throughout the financial year. I would also like to thank the staff of Glen Development Initiative for their continued support and assistance in the sustainability of our group. GDI also received funding from Big Lottery Fund NI and this allowed us to expand our programmes and events.

Future Planning

Glen Development Initiative

Our members are involved in other activities outside of our group and this includes having representatives on the board of directors of Glen Development Initiative, the umbrella community group in Glenview Community Centre. GDI were successful in receiving a Big Lottery Grant that allows us to continue our programmes.

GDI held a Strategy Day in February 2024. As part of this we worked with our group representatives to identify the priorities for our group going forward.

The results are as follows:

Women’s Group

Short Term Priorities: Mental Health courses, group interaction, fundraising campaign, mini food bank in centre. Short/Medium Priorities: Community Safety and other awareness initiatives.

Medium Term Priorities: More time allocated for group.

Long Term Priorities: Minibus, more established community relationships, new centre.
