Chairperson’s Report

I would like to welcome you all here to the Annual General Meeting of the Greater Glen Women’s Group.

The group was formed in June 2006 and since then local women have participated in a range of courses and initiatives all delivered locally. With continued funding from DfC (Department for Communities), Glen Development Initiative is able to continue the valued support to Greater Glen Women’s Group.

I would like to acknowledge the roles of the Committee for their continuing support and reiterate the importance of your roles in the promotion and function of the organisation over the last year so thank you so much for all your support because you are the backbone of our Women’s Group.

Our charitable purposes include: the advancement of citizenship or community development, the relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage, the prevention or relief of poverty, the advancement of education and the advancement of health or the saving of lives.

We have now expanded our group and we have a young women’s group who meet every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm. They have been taking part in a number of holistic programmes including art therapy, relaxation techniques and Bach’s remedies. This group is always open to new members.

We would like to say a special thank you to all our members who for their help and commitment to our group, without you we would be lost.

I would like to thank the following funders; without their continued support we would be unable to run programmes within the area.

This funding allowed us to run a few programmes for all members of the family. We offered family trips to Rosepark Fun Farm. The young families

from our local area had a wonderful time feeding the animals, playing in the lagoon beach, the enchanted forest and the many play areas.

We also ran a day trip for the older members of our community. We visited Ulster American Folk Park then had dinner in a local hotel. This trip offered members of our group and various others who attend different groups within the community centre to interact, mix and share experiences.

WHSCT

Thanks to funding from Western Health and Social Care Trust we were able to run a holistic programme for our ladies. This included alternative therapies, physical exercise, cooking, and crafts.
