In preparing this report the charity (Kilnaslee Community Development Group) has paid due regard to the commissions public benefit requirement statutory guidance. Page **3** of **14** Kilnaslee Community Development Group Annual Report 2023 ## **2023 COURSES & ACTIVITIES** Weekly **pipe and drum tuition** continued in the early part of the year and following the summer break, familiar faces returned. **Kilnaslee Bowling Club** continues to make excellent use of our community facility with weekly practice and matches. Our AGM was twinned with a **Down Memory Lane** event, where historic photographs and documents were digitally displayed and archived. Our Spring Programme was education focused with two sessions of **First Aid training** from St John’s Ambulance, in-house **IT training** , a comprehensive **Food Safety** course and a very informative talk on **Home Safety** . **Kilnaslee Arts Programme** was not only a new activity for us but new to the local area. For 15 weeks of the year, two sessions were delivered to a wide audience; children, teens and adults. We hosted a **Coronation BBQ** with music and entertainment and all the food consumed was offset by our **summer walking club** . Our Winter Programme began with **Jive classes** and a very successful **table quiz and raffle** , raising money for Community Group funds. The year closed out with a very popular **Christmas wreath making class** and our annual **Christmas party** had it’s largest attendance to date. Page **4** of **14** Kilnaslee Community Development Group Annual Report 2023 ## **MEETINGS OF THE COMMUNITY GROUP** Our AGM survey back in January 2023 provided our Group with valuable feedback and direction. Meetings focused on the delivery of activities and events to make use of the significant refurbishments undertaken in 2021/22. The community group also connected with COSTA and Rural Action for invaluable advice and support. Page **5** of **14** Kilnaslee Community Development Group Annual Report 2023 ## **CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2023** Our AGM survey back in January 2023 provided our Group with valuable feedback and direction. A wide and varied range of events and activities took place in 2023, which delivered our objectives as stated in our Public benefit statement namely: Advancement of Education, Advancement of Arts and Culture and Local Community participation. The opportunity to look back and reminisce at our **Down Memory Lane** event was hugely successful with over 400 historic photographs and documents digitally archived using our new IT equipment. Our Spring Programme got underway with two sessions of **First Aid training** from St John’s Ambulance. Everyone was gently encouraged to participate and their hard work paid off with folk who attended receiving a certificate to acknowledge their learning. Education continued with an in-house **IT training** session on how to use newly acquired Equipment. The arrival of summer saw our training conclude with a **Food Safety** course. We were treated to a very jolly facilitator who not only explained the theory but also gave those who attended the opportunity to practically apply their knowledge in our kitchen. As autumn approached, a Health and Wellbeing officer from Mid-Ulster District Council gave a very informative talk on **Home Safety** . Most notably was the importance of checking and replacing all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms within our homes. Arts and Culture formed a significant part of our activity this year. Weekly **pipe and drum tuition** continued in the early part of the year and following the summer break, familiar faces returned. We are most thankful to our tutors for their 20-week commitment, and we are delighted that some new faces are applying themselves to making music. **Kilnaslee Arts Programme** was not only a new activity for us but new to the local area. For 15 weeks of the year, two sessions were delivered to a wide audience: children, teens and adults. Attendees spanned four generations, with detailed presentations on artists such as Keith Haring, Matisse, Picasso, Alma Thomas, David Hockney and work undertaken in collage, drawing, painting, printmaking, pointillism, photography to name but a few. We can again only express our sincere thanks for the time and expertise of our Art Facilitator. We hope that Kilnaslee Arts Programme returns in 2024. Page **6** of **14** Kilnaslee Community Development Group Annual Report 2023 Our **Coronation BBQ** proved to be a huge success with almost 150 people attending and enjoying the food, dance and music provided. The planning, work and tidy up of this event was significant and one that we hope not to repeat anytime soon … Long may he reign! Another new activity for 2023 was our **summer walking club** , which visited four local parks over the four weeks of June. We are fortunate to have such picturesque venues so close and it was a lovely opportunity to enjoy the evening sunshine with family, friends and neighbours. The Showband era might have to return because **Jive classes** at Kilnaslee proved popular with our four week course. We were expertly shown turns, spins and moves by our dance instructor and her assistants. By week four we were all ready for Jiving in some form or another. **Kilnaslee Bowling Club** continues to make excellent use of our community facility with practice matches improving the skills of new learners and getting them match fit for competitions. Once again, we hosted a very successful **table quiz and raffle** , raising money for Community Group funds. Christmas celebrations got underway a little earlier than usual with a very successful **Christmas wreath making class** . The foliage was not difficult to locate but weather conditions didn’t make it easy to gather. However, it was all worth it when stunning Christmas wreaths were created under the expert direction of a local gardening business. Our annual **Christmas party** made a welcome return with Santa and Rudolph carrying a very heavy load of gifts for very good children. This year, we were entertained by a dance and exercise class. A solid hour of movement and madness ensured everyone enjoyed the delicious supper provided. I sincerely thank all who volunteered their time and talent to attend and assist this year. As we look ahead to 2024, we remember the generous service of those who we miss and aim to continue in their footsteps, by supporting our community. Leaving a bank account credit balance of £3,730 ## Income Net income was £22,292 ## Expenditure £33,637 was spent on charitable activities. Approximately 8-10 members attend each meeting, and all contribute to the discussions. All members are unpaid. No membership fee is required of anyone seeking to become a member of the community group association. Seven members act as trustees {see appendix 1 above}. 3 of the trustees are office bearers and 4 trustees are ordinary members. ## Public Benefit Statement ## Purposes Kilnaslee Community Development Group's purpose is to alleviate unemployment, to advance education, to provide and assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life, and promotion of its objectives for the inhabitants of the local area. ## Public Benefit Advancement of Education – by the provision of facilities for Child Protection Training and Farming Families Health Check. Advancement of Arts & Culture - by the provision of facilities for weekly pipe band practice. Advancement of Amateur Sport - by the provision of facilities for the local bowling club. We seek to raise funds for the provision of the objects of the group. We promote classes and provide a venue that the local community makes use of as a central location for each of the activities we facilitate. We encourage and promote membership of the local community group and promote participation in all its activities. We hold events to gather the local community together to participate in group activities such as our annual Christmas party and hall tidy up days to encourage the local community to work together and provide a focal point for the area.
