The Trust has always been aware that its threè main obioctives (advancemènt of education, advaneem8nt of religion and relief of poverty) cannot be viewad as three direte objectives, requiring the application of three separats sets of criteria. Rather, there is 'cross-fertilisalion" bets¥¢en the concepts.. a donation to a religious organisalion may servo to advance rel10n buL on many occasions, il can lead lo people receiving an educational benefit. Similarly, when much needed food and nutrition is not available for children in Ethiopia, then the chances of their growing and 18arning h¢)w to be valuable citvzens is close to zero. Practically. this means that the bulk ol the grants made by the Trust are lo other existing charities who, in the opinion of the Trustees, can demonstrate a trac* record of engagement in charitable activities which relect the aims and objectives of the Trusl. On some occasions grants are made on a 're$lftcled fund8. basis whereby the donation is made in aid of a particular aclivty or charitable project that the Trustees have a particular intere81 in developing. On other occasions il is recognised by the Trustees that certain charities have a proven track record in projects which reflect clo8•ly th Trust's own objects and with whom the Trust, over the years, have built up a relationship.
