“Where there is Life there is always hope”

Islas Rainbow of Hope was founded shortly following the death of our precious Daughter Isla on Christmas Eve 2013 aged 10 months and 13 days. Due to a horrific accident months before, Isla and her Mummy were severely injured and Isla sustained a life threatening acquired brain injury. Islas charity aims to bring hope to families of Northern Ireland when there is nothing but despair.

The Public Benefit of the charity is to provide support to children (aged 0-18years) who are diagnosed Life Limited and suffering from an Acquired Brain Injury. We endeavour to bridge the gap between existing nursing and palliative service support teams and the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice. We work towards assisting families to ensure the voice of the child is heard and support children’s rights to a comfortable family life. We want to help families to return home with a life limited child and make everlasting memories. We aim to raise vital funds with the help of the Trustees, family and friends to promote and support Islas Charity

Financial managemen t

At all 3 meetings this year accounts where shown with all trustee. We liaise closely with our banking source SANTANDER Main Street Bangor Co Down to ensure we enable the best of Islas charity account. Funds are held for immediate release for equipment when required. We have minimal outlays (please refer to annual account report attached).

Accounts

Up to date – documentation completed monthly. We continue to bank with Santander all details remain the same for the registered account. Accounts to date are perfect no discrepancies

Main Events:

Media cover story by Belfast Live and Daily Mirror – reporter Jilly Beattie highlighted Islas story her legacy and the role of her charity. Sept 2017

Take a Break magazine also covered Islas story her legacy and her charity role. October 2017

November 2017 Jemma Dougherty raised £1,300 for portable suction machines via just Giving and lodged the funds directly to the account. As to date cardiac services are struggling to get us the replaceable suction collection ports we hope to still provide 4 of these to the palliative care team and the NI hospice.

Reference and administrative details

We declared at our last meeting all trustees wished to remain as part of the charity. No further changes to trustee’s information that is held on file.

Structure governance and management

The trustees remain in power of all areas assigned at time of application to Islas rainbow of hope

Islas charity remains the same to the public benefit: to advance the health and or saving of lives.

Objectives and activities 2018-2019

Finalise purchase of suction pumps with Cardiac Services.

Continue to try to build our base of volunteers and create a more interactive webpage.

Consider asking Vodafone to sponsor charity phone for a year or seek a method much cheaper to fund.

Summary

Isla charity will continue to access hospital staff ensuring they are aware of the charity and what we can offer to families with life limited children.

To continue to provide help to life limited children.

To continue to build on the website as it is very limited and requires updating regularly as medical advances evolve.

To continue to hold on file names and applications of those willing to volunteer and assist with the charity.

We had plans to dedicate Islas Crib to James Browns Undertakers for further families to use in times of devastation and grief. Unfortunately we were unable to achieve this due to external influences (choosing correct paint engraving etc) however we envisage dedication by end of 2018.

Our media coverage gave us lots of support throughout 2017 and into 2018. The media have stated they would be more than happy to continue to share our journeys in helping others at no publishing costs.

We are currently looking for someone to run IT and web design to regular post updates as a small charity and existing commitments we are not finding the time to dedicate to the web page as we desire. We hope this is in place 2018-2019.
