Feed My Lambs Cambodia
Report of the Trustees 2024 - 2025
Feed My Lambs Cambodia (FMLC) was established in 2012 by John and Ann Turner where they were working as independent Christian Missionaries in Cambodia.
. Background
Cambodia is a poor, Southeast Asian country. In their society, the family unit is still strong, marriage is the accepted norm and divorce is uncommon.
Crisis pregnancies for unmarried women and girls, of course happen, but there is huge family stigma when unmarried girls and women fall pregnant. So, when it happens, it is a true family crisis. The young woman is normally excluded from the family and is put into the streets to live.
There are no social services to help these girls and women. A backstreet abortion is the accepted solution to the problem.
Aims and Purposes
Feed My Lambs Cambodia is devoted to the care and protection of Cambodian babies and children.
The work of the FMLC has the welfare of vulnerable, Cambodian, unborn and born babies and children at its core.
Objectives and Activities.
. Purposes
Feed My lambs Cambodia was established to relieve poverty, hardship and distress, advance education and promote the health and wellbeing of the inhabitants of Phnom Penh city and its environs. To achieve this, we work with other foreign NGO’s, FMLC identify genuine crisis pregnancy cases and offer the unique choice of free daycare for their baby should they choose to proceed with their pregnancy. They almost always proceed thus saving the life of their baby. We estimate since the creation of FMLC over 180 babies’ lives have been saved.
FMLC provides free day care for the first 5 years of a babies/ child’s life. This removes the crisis and allows the girl or woman to get work to pay for a room for her and her baby (whom we regard as our beneficiaries). In some cases, it allows the girl to return to school or proceed with training. Some marry and some, after a period of time, are allowed to return to their parents' home and family unit.
Our day care centre has a maximum number of 20 but usually there is an attendance of between 12 to 15. Children can attend free of charge from birth to 5 years of age, but they usually attend for around 3 years. This is dependent on the mother’s family and employment circumstances. We have had a few children who have attended for the full free 5 years.
The standard of care in the FMLC day care Centre, known as Little Lambs Day Care Centre (LL) is of the highest standard. LL has western standard child protection policies and training for staff in place.
As can be seen in this report our financial outgoings have changed considerably. This is due to necessary staff reductions as the number of eligible babies and children have reduced due changes in supporting local NGO’s.
