Trustees’ Report for the year ended 31/12/22
Maghery District Hall Commitee
Aims and purpose
Our organisation was set up to serve the local community and to foster and promote various activities through the development of community facilities. We are committed to bringing a real improvement to our community by promoting participation in a wide range of charitable, educational, community and health related activities.
The community hall provides opportunities for local groups i.e. the primary school, GAA club, FastTrad music, drama, Irish dance and bowls to host activities to help with fundraising. These groups are at the heart of our community and continue to develop with fundraising raised within the community and via grant applications.
The hall has therefore to be maintained and managed and our organisation has responsibility for this.
Activities and Objectives
The direct benefits which flow from the management of the hall by the company include the provision of a well maintained facility. All members of the community can avail of the premises for recreational and fundraising activities.
Other groups from within the community benefit as they have a safe space to meet and pursue their interests, for example the Diamond Elderly Group.
The impact of social deprivation is lessened by the existence of a community hall in the rural environment.
The purpose of our charity does not lead to any harm.
The benefits are demonstrated through the number of people using the premises. We have secured a number of community groups who use the hall on a regular basis and the facility meets their requirements.
We assess the satisfaction of users by feedback received and the level of interest shown by all members of the community.
There is no private benefit flowing from the purpose of our organisation
The Company’s objects are specifically restricted to the following:
The Association is established to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Maghery village and its environs of County Armagh and Tyrone (hereinafter described as ‘the area of benefit’) without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for the protection of health, recreation and leisuretime activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
(a) To maintain and manage the Maghery village hall for activities in furtherance of the above objects.
(b) To advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the directors may, from time to time, decide in accordance with the law of charity.
Current year
The Trustees’ feel the aims and purposes of the company are being met, and intend to build on the success to date. Currently operating with a small loss, careful financial management is essential to maintain the company moving forward. We would also like to thank the volunteers who work so hard to make the Hall a vibrant part of the community.
