Ballywalter Youth & Community Cooperative during this period continues to provide a
shared community space for community groups, statutory organisations etc to meet
and offer services at Ballywalter Village Hall. The hall operates over 2 floors with a
disabled lift providing a¢￿sS to the 2nd floor, it has a large hall for bigger activities,
Training Room, IT Suite, Kitchen, Storage Rooms and Office Space and 2 self-
contained business units
During this period, we had 12 regular user groups 25 ad hoc users from Voluntary
and Local Govemment Departs. In addition, the hall was used by Ballywalter
Community Action Group to to deliver the Coronation Celebration Event, Christmas
Festival, Rabble Burns Night and St Patrick's Day Event. Newtownards Jobs and
Benefits offi￿ delivers an Outreach Support Services to those on benefits and
seeking support and work. Ards Peninsula Village Partnership met weekly to plan
Ards Peninsula Kite Festival. United Ulster History Forum organised a Military
Exhibition as part of Remembrance Day, this was attended by school children from 4
schools and public. All the user groups offer services for isolated older people, as
well as running training or information workshops.
In addition, the hall has 2 business units, this allows us to provide space for 2 local
businesses - Barbers and Hair & Beauty Salon they between them provide
employment for 6 people and deliver services to Ballywalter and the surrounding
areas this saves residents the costs of travelling to Newtownards or Bangor.
Ballywalter Village Hall is an integral part of the community and means that the Main
Street in the village and continues to be the focal point of that area as it provides a
welcoming and a¢￿SSIble space for community use to meet all needs.
