Omagh District u3a . . . Annual General meeting. [NICC 101407] Monday 14[th ] April 2025 Venue: St'Columba's.
Chairman 's report.
Ladies and Gentlemen could I first of all thank Una for her excellent talk on Community Transport. I would thank you all for your attendance. This is an important meeting in our calender of events as it gives you the opportunity to review the past years activities, the current state of our finances as detailed in the Treasurer's financial report and also sets the new committee on course to take the u3a forward. I would like to thank all the outgoing Executive Committee members and officers for their commitment and work on behalf of our members throughout the year.
I would particularly like to thank Geraldine our Treasurer and Suzanne our Secretary for the sterling work they carried out. The Committee was very productive this year and helped me greatly and many took on roles to improve the way we run this u3a. I am sorry to say that some Committee members have decided to stand down this year and I sincerely thank them for their service. I know that they will still be a great support to the organisation. Could I particularly thank the ladies who provide the tea and coffee every month. It just does not appear by magic and we need volunteers to assist with this to keep it going.
Sid stepped down from his role in the Committee last year but his help in getting word out to members has been invaluable to me, as have been his 'Reviews' and other printed material for the Creative writing group and the Drama group.
The activity groups continue to grow under Lorna and the new Ukulele group and Creative writing are really flourishing.
This is your u3a and will only prosper with your input and ideas. The new Committee will try to exceed your expectations but we need new idea's, new groups proposed and most importantly speakers for future events. Next month we have Rodney Hamill talking about the Jail Square project. In June we have the drama production of 'The Staff Room 1997'. I thank all the speakers and performers who made it a very successful year and all those who worked behind the scenes to organise our New Year lunch event and Christmas festivities.
Bring friends and make new friends. There are thousands of years of expertise and knowledge in this room and we need to share that knowledge not only within the group but looking outside to help others who perhaps suffer from isolation and loneliness. Thank you for bearing with me as Chairman and I wish the new Committee well for the coming year.
The first Committee meeting will be tomorrow in Omagh Library at 2.00pm. I thank all members for their continued support and this is a u3a that is not only getting bigger but is very productive. You as members need to get involved and tell us what you want. I would also thank Laura the caretaker of the hall for always being prepared to do what it takes to help us. She is a credit to this organisation. I also thank Alison from SWAP for her continued support and advice.
I wish you all a very successful year and now will step down as the new committee are appointed. Everything has been done in line with the Constitution to insure the procedure has been followed for the election of new officers.
Thank You.
Philip Faithfull
Chairman.
