## Main Activities and Achievements 

The aim of the Society has been from the outset to provide an avenue for members of the general public to perform in concerts and musical shows throughout the province. The company provide direction in voice, acting and dance ability, in particular Musical Theatre. 

Experience and direction is also provided with regard to backstage skills with members shadowing or helping out with light/sound, staging, props, costuming and makeup etc.. The company aim to perform one major musical show each year and various concerts throughout the year for the general public of Northern Ireland. 

1. Working with adults to develop their musical and acting talent through the production and staging of shows and concerts, leading to an improvement in the standard of their performance. As a consequence this improves their self-confidence and general awareness of music and the arts. 

2. This also includes the entertainment of the general public in providing education and an increased awareness of the benefits of music and  Musical Theatre. 

3. The participation of young people to develop their skills and talents in performing and musical theatre. These developed skills enhance their self-confidence, social awareness and promotes collaboration and cooperation with others.. 

4. No private benefits flow from our purpose. The beneficiaries are the public and those attending performances/concerts 

The company had planned to put on another small winter production this year however as of March 2020 Northern Ireland went into lockdown along with the rest of the UK due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions for rehearsing and performing remained in place throughout the entire reporting year.

## Financial review 

Financial performance in the year to January 2024 has not been consistent with the trustee’s forecasts and aspirations. The company has not gathered since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and no membership fees have been collected.  A deficit of £518was recorded for the year ending 31st January 2024 compared to the deficit of £405 for the financial year ending 31st January 2023. 

The year ended with a general (and sole) fund balance of £3,440 compared to £3,958 for the same date last year. 

## Income 

Income receipts for the year totalled £8 – an increase from that of the same date last year of £4. 

The society’s income usually varies from year to year due to fluctuating membership numbers and depending upon the success of a production or venture, however the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a complete cessation of the company’s activities and to date we have not gathered again. 

Member’s subscriptions were at zero again, as they were in 2022 & 2023. This is due to the fact we did not gather or put on a production, 

## Expenditure 

The expenditure for the year ending 31[st] January 2024 consisted of £446 Insurance and £80 in Bank charges. 

## Risks 

Our company identified a great risk to ourselves and other companies alike. We need to continually fundraise as charges are immense and venues are difficult to secure,  moving forward we will continue to seek out different venues to better suit our current needs.

The Society has a Financial Management Policy which meets the requirements of the Charities Act 2011, the Charity Commission guidelines “Internal Financial Controls for Charities” and “Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (Revised 2005.

## Governing Document and Constitution 

The company is governed by a constitution that was subject to review by the membership in 2014. It is available on our website at www.newlyric.co.uk 

We work to a Code of Conduct, Financial Policy and Procedures and a Conflict of Interest policy that ensure the members are well looked after and the committee are working to their best ability. 

## Trustee Selection and Management 

Committee members are nominated at an AGM using a form that must be countersigned by two current members to show their reasons for nomination.
