We also focus on movement, music and drama, thus building confidence and social skills. - A wide choice of play activities including outdoor activities to enable the children to grow their confidence, independence and self-esteem. - Joint activities for parents and children to encourage home learning and parental support in rural areas. - Link with other organisations including community health teams to ensure access to services and each child are supported. The activities aim to: - Address the needs of children from rural and disadvantaged communities enabling a more - Equal start at formal education/nursery. - Contribute to the child's longer-term achievements. - Be accessible and affordable for children from rural/disadvantaged communities. - Engage with children from different community backgrounds and BME communities. - Provide learning support to children with additional needs in a supportive and integrated **Charity Number: 101382 Happy Faces Playgroup** Environment. - Provide a holistic range of support for children and families. ## **Achievement and Performance** ## **Staff:** The current members of staff are Catherine Devanney as Leader and Megan Durrant as Deputy Leader. Brenda McGonigle as Assistant of the Playgroup. Maria Maxwell left her role as SEN Assistant in November 2023. Danielle Farrell left her role as Leader in April 2024. ## **Pre-school Programme:** In 2023/2024 the playgroup had 22 children in total, 6 of which were pre-pre. We work closely our Early Years Advisor to ensure the Pre-school Curriculum is implemented. Throughout the year we visited the local primary school, Omagh Fire Station and Rascalz, Castlederg. There were celebrations at Halloween, Christmas and Easter in the setting as well as the local primary school. We also had a graduation event took place on June 2024 where the children’s families came into the building for a Party. ## **Policies and Procedures:** Happy Faces Playgroup reviews all our policies on an annual basis. This year we updated our Maternity Leave Policy and work is continuing several other policies in consultation with our HR Consultant. ## **Playgroup Maintenance:** Work carried out in the Playschool this year included the outdoor area. We have also several other repairs and maintenance works to be carried out which will hopefully occur during the summer break. ## **Fundraising:** We received funding from the Pathways and Education Authority. We ran the ## **Future Plans:** - Develop our outdoor area in line with the ETI recommendation, including a sensory area **Charity Number: 101382 Happy Faces Playgroup** - Staff to continue to further develop and enhance their skills by attending relevant training. - Develop partnership working with other Community Organisations locally such as GAA - & CCDA. ## **Public Benefit** The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's public benefit requirement Statutory guidance. Happy Faces Community Playgroup is registered with Western Health and Social Care Trust to support 22 children. We employ a playgroup leader, deputy and assistant and have a pool of banking staff. The service supports children living in rural areas close to the Tyrone/Donegal border. Subsequently it supports children with additional needs. Our main aims are to promote play in early education, reduce Barriers that hinder children’s transition from childcare to nursery/primary school. ## **Structure, Governance and Management** An executive committee who are all registered with CCNI manages the charity. The committee deals with the selection and appointment of new trustees. ## **Financial Review** The charity returned a net deficit in funds of £6,360. The results for the year are shown on Pages 6 to 7. It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted funds, which have not been designated for a specific use, should be maintained at a level which will ensure that they will be able to continue the current activities in the event of a drop in funding. The charity aims to continue to increase its reserves to ensure the Stability of its services and operations.
