S11-health, disabllity. financlal hard5hSp or other disadvantage Athlevements and performan¢e of the charlty The chaflty has continued to provide an Improved quality of life for orphans and vulnerable chlldren benefiting from the centre In Mufullra. This has been condutted through the provision of accommodation, clothes, food, and emotional support made posslble by the orphanage. This year. one of the trustees of the charity vSslted the orphanage in May 2023. Durlng the year the Pastor based at the orphanage died suddenly. HIS widow and thelr son have tsken over the day to day runnlng of the orphanage and they contlnued to provide blbllcal teachln8 for the children. The alm of sèlt_sustainablllty has continued to be a maln oblertive and thls is belng met through the banana plantation and water supply. The orphana8e Is also 8rowlng many of their own vegetsbles wlth any SLtrplus bein8 supplied to a local supermarket wlth the proceeds belng used to cover everyday IlvSng Costs. A local tsrmer has now given the orphanage addltlonal land and this Is being used for 8rowlng malze and extra vegetables. In totsl, the orphanage farm5 approxSmatelv 70 ac5. Maize. vegetsbles. oranges. bananas and other frults have been grown on the land with a successful harvest thls vear. Contsiners are still beln8 sent to the orphana8e. These contslners Include clothln& fumlture and other items for the use of the chlldren. Some items are sold wSth the proceeds used for the continued upkeep of the orphana8e. Malntenance work has been carrled out in both the girls dormltory and the boys dormltory. In the gSrls dormbtory, a new safety door has been Installed, It has been palnted ond new curtains have been put up. A new"House Mother" has been appolnted to take care of the glrls. In the boys dormltory, a new ceiling has bèen erected, repalnted throughout and new curtalns. During the year 25 new duvets and covers were sent to the orphanage and they also were able to purchase plllows, thrèe mattresses and a laundry basket. Durlng the year the teacher left the Ofphanage and a new teacher has been appolnted. The new teacher has settled into hls role and Is Involvèd wlth the young people both in thelr school work and all their other activities and needs. The Improvement of the life chances of the children supported by the orphana8e happens through the prov151on of funding for education and a caring and nurturing establishrnent where they are tsught lrfe skills to equlp them to INe independent lives as skilled and productive cltlzens who are self-sufficlent when they reach adulthood. The establishment of sustalnable projects e.g. banana plantation and farming projects enables the children and young adults to learn valuable Ilfe skills such as farmlng skllls and money management and develop their potentlal to live as Independent, self-sUStalnlnE adults. Thls is evldenced by the Èstabllshment of the orphanage and the increased number of children sUPPOrted by the orphanage. the Increasin8 number of thlldren who leave the orphanage wlth a formal education and are self-motivated young adults capable of Independent Ilvlng and by the successful banana harvest each yearwhich is used to buy provlslons for the orphana8e. The direct beneflt from purpose twols to encourage an increased knowledge and understanding of Christian prlnciples and their relevance and applicatlon to everyday life which will empower the youn8 people to live soclèlly and morally consclous lives. Thls benefrt is evidenced by the growing work of MufLFlirh Orphaned Children. The beneficiarie5 of all our purposes are the orphans of the Mufullra area and these purposes do not lead to harm. There Is no private beneflt for the trustees. Flnanclal Review During the year. the charlty had an income of £24.779 with expenses Incurred of £23.117. At the year end the charity had balance of £1,815 In Its bank account. The trustees of the charlty are gètting older and are not as able to conduct the Vrk of the charity. They are thank1 that Rea Mcmillan was able to visit Mulfulira in May 2023. However. her husband was unable to accompany hÈr due to hls health. The trustees are unllkely to be able to attend church meetings etc and tell of thelr work wsth the result itls Ilkely that income will not Increase to pre pandemlc levels. The trustÈe5 expect that all funds raised will be requlred to keep the children fed, clothed, and schooled. The orphanage is In a posrtlon that they grow vegetables, malze, bananas ett and they also have chlckens whith supply egg5. Most of th15 Is used for the orphanage meals and the remalnder sold and this provides some money to buy rice etc to enhance thelr meals. Thls also helps to make what money therels a¥allable for electricity, school, clothlngi car maintenance payments etr. Generally. there Is Ilttle. or nothing left over for any other expenses which may occur. Financlal accountability15 always made possible through regular reporting and rnoney belng dealt with by two people. STATEMENT OF TRUSTEE RESPONSIBILITIES The Trustees are responsible for preparlng the annual report and the financlal statements of the charity in accordance wlth appllcablè law and generally accepted accounting prartlce. As the charitys total income does not exceed £250,000, the Tru5tee5 have elected under Section 64131 of the Charltles Art (Northern Ireland) 2(108 to prepare a recelpts and payment account and a Statenrtt of assets and Ilabilities. The Tnjstees are responslble for keeping adequate accountln8 record5 that are sufficient to show and explaln the charivs transattlons and dlsclose with reasonable accuracy at any time its financlal posltlon. They are also responsible for safeguardlng the assets of the rhority and hence for takin8 reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irre8ular(tles.
