The Focus of oui. Wol'l<
The Jnaiii focus of oui" woi"k continues to be the i"e-homing of ¢ats and dogs and to advance anunal welfare in the Noith
West of Noitliern Irel&id 8nd its eiivll'ons. We strive to llnprove tbe lives of aniinals within Oinagh and the surrounding
'eas and in tlll'n have a positive effect upon the local coinmwiity. We are coimnitted to the rescuing and i'e-hoiniT)g of
unwanted, neglected, and abandoned anllnals. the rehabilitation of said aninials, the educalioii of the public in inattei's
pertalliing to anTrinal Welf￿'e, the pro]notion of iieutering and spaying of anunals ￿]d campaigning for changes in
legislation to protect coinpanioii animals. We network with other agencies, i.e., Local council, Dog wal'dens and Anijnal
Wel[￿'e Officers. ￿] addition, we are Iiieinbei's of ADCH (Associatioii of Dogs aiid Cats Hoines), who are a pi'ofessional
body who promotes best pi'aclice lli animal welfare i-elating to cat i'ehoiming, dog i'ehoining, dog i'escue & cat rescue.

The dll-ect benefit of tliis initiative lies in alleviating the burden on pet owners who fjnd themselves uiiable to continue
caring foi. their anllnals. This also eases the pi'essure on individuals who encounter stray aniinals bLIt al'e ill-equipped
to look after thein. The positive outconies of our elforts are evident in our activities of accepting, nuitui'ing, and
finding new hoines foi. botli abaiidoiied and stray pets. Oui. sei'vices include providllig medical tt-eattnent, a system for
rescue aiid adoptioii, and, when iiecessai'y, a sanctuary foi. rehoining, which we publicise to encoiirage einpathy aiid
kindiiess among the conllnunity. Ovei. the past yeai-, we have successfully provided new homes foi. l O I cats and doos.
Tliis significaiitly ieduces the populatioii of feral cats, especially on fai']ns, and diminishes stiess for local people aiid
the cats themselves. This objective causes no harm aiid serves the collective good of the people in Northern Ii'eland.

beiiefits are demonstrated tlirough ow. weekly dog walking club where the geneL'al public can come and exei'cise
hoineless anllnals. Gi-ovehill Allllnal Trust also relies oil and encourages volunteers from the general public to assist
with the daily carllig of the animals at the sheltei.. We liave volunteers fi'oin all walks of life, wljo galll gi'eat woi'k
expei-ience at the slieltei- aiid shop. We Iiave volwiteeis with leainllig difficulties or special needs, alld we work closely
witli orgaLiisations iiicluding Arvalee School, Mencap and tlie probation service to give volunteei's opp0itL￿IlieS they

proinotes the tt-appin& neutei-iEig and release of fei'al cats within the local con]niunity and pi'ovides fmancial assistance

Anunal Ti'ust. This is incideiital and a necessary result or by pi'oduct of carying oiit purpose one.. to i'elieve the
sufferuig and distress of sh'ay, neglected OT unwanted aniinals. The benefit to the vet would be pi'ivate but incidental
to the pui'poses of the chai'ity and tbei'efoi-e there is no conflict of interest as it is a necessai'y but incidental by product
to achieving oui- purposes.

Stai'ting neiv dog runs
Due to the increasing nuLnber of dogs i'equiring extended rehabilitation and longer stays, we identified tbe need foi.
additional dog runs at oui. sheltei.. To addi'ess this, we began by cleai'ing a designated area, layintr foundatioiis, and
Poul'llig concrete foi. tlie new runs. We also installed a fence around the sile foi- secui'ity. This work took tlii'ee inoiiths
to coinplete. Ojice fuiiding becoilles available, we will proceed with constt'ucttng a new dog shed. Upoii coinpletion,
this project will double oui. Icennel capacity, Biiabling us to accoininodate n]oi-e dogs on-site.
New aJiiInal ambulance
Unfortuiiately, our anllnal ambulance broke down, and we wei'e advised that it needed to be replaced. The ainbulance
plays a ciucial i'ole in oui. opei'atioiis. as it is esseiitial foi. transpoituig aiillnals to and fi-oin the vet. As a i'esult, we had
no choice but to purcliase a new one.
Secui-ity and m onitor camei-as
We installed security and inonitOTing caineras at oui. aiillllal slieltei. to enhaiice the safety and well-being of both tlie
aniinals and staff. These c81nei.as provide 2417 sui'veillance, Iielpllig us to deter unautlioi'ized access and Inonitor the
pi'einises for any potential seciirity issues. Additionally, they alloiv lis to keep a close watch on the aiiimals, eiisurllig
theu- cale and safety even when staff is not physically present. Tliis systein is an llnportant step lli protectiiig our
shelter and ensurirkg a secui-e envll'omnent for eveiyone involved.
Rei'ieml of policies
We recently conducted a thoi'ough review and i'evisioii of our policies aiid pi'ocedures for both staff and volunteers at
tlie slieltei.. This pi'ocess was allned at en5u1.ing that all protocols al'e up-to-date, clear, aiid aligned with best practices
in anllllal care aiid sheltei. Inaiiagement. By revising these guidelines, we have cl'eated a more structured and efficient
woi'king envll-onment, enliancllig safety, COiTllnunication, and accountability. Tlie updated policies also pi'ovide
cleai'er instt'uctions and expectations foi. both staff and voluiiteers, helpiiig us llnprove Ilie ovei-all quality of cal'e we
pi'ovide to the ani]nals and fostei'ing a inoi'e cohesive tea]n.
Edueational outi'eaeh program
OUT educatioiial outreach pi'ograin remained a key focus, with talks in local schools, coinmuiiity centres about the
i]npoitance of anllnal welfare and responsible pet ownership. These initiatives alln to inspll'e ￿tllre generations to
care for allimals with cojnpassion and respect.

Reserves policy and i"esults
The Grovehill AJ]imal Tiust had total i-eserves on 31 March 2024 of £122.306.

Volunteei's
The Ti'LlSt is deeply (uatefiil for the dedication and hard work of its volunteers, who play a vital i'ole in the day~to-
day operations of botli the ch￿'Ity shop and the shelter. Theii. invaluable suppoit is esseiilial to oui. success. This
yew., we wei'e pleased to see our volunteei- team gl-ow, with around 30 individuals genei'ously offering theii. tune

and effoit to help us achieve our inission. their services. Assuining eacli volunteei. coiiti'ibutes about 150 hours
annually, and if these ho]Ji's were coinpeiisated it ininlln wage, the collective contribution of these volunteer hours
would have cost Grovehill Animal Trust over £46,890 pei. annum.
