Docusign Envelope ID-. 6884E708.EAON23A_8D92_DE8AE7ED5111 COALITION OF AID & DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES NORTHERN IRELAND (CADA NI) REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022 OBJECTIVES The objectives of the Coalition of Aid and Development Agencies Northern Ireland (CADA NI) are to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of our members and to advance the education of the public, including government agencies, aboLrt international aid and development work. CADA Nl has been very active over this last year in working towards these charitable objectives. CADA is a small network of 20 development organisations with one part-time Development Officer (this post has been vacant since April 2022). We rely, to a great extent, on the staff capacity and time given by our members to support our work, particularly by those who serve on our Management Committee and One World Festival Committee. CONTEXT CADA members faced yet another very challenging year, as we emerged from pandemic restrictions. The communities in countries where CADA members work continue to face enormous challenges in dealing with the tragic loss of life and aftermath of Covid-19. We entered into an environment where the cost of living crisis, plus the impact of the war in Ukraine, has had a detrimental effect on the financial security of people across Northern Ireland. With less disposable income, our member organisations have felt the reduction in donations and an increasingly negative attitude towards international development. Financial insecurity has left many people in Northern Ireland struggling to meet their own rising energy and food bills. Subsequently, the public have become more focused on the visible, local needs, rather than looking outward to support those in need globally. This has been further compounded by the impact of the devastating aid cuts, and the absence of a functioning Stormont government. Without a functioning Stormont government als public advocacy work has been stalled, which has impeded any collective joint initiatives that CADA members could have supported. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS ONE WORLD FESTIVAL One Worfd Festival had another successful year, despite the capacity limitation of not having a Development Officer in place. The Management Committee want to express our huge gratitude to the One World Festival part time Festival Manager, Ruth Young, and the Volunteer Committee members for having organised and planned such a varied and interesting festival programme. Thanks also to all our members who hosted and delivered events for the festival. We remain hugely grateful to our funders for the festival - Concern Worldwide and funding through Bond and the UK Alliance that enables the festival to be resourced and managed. The Festival theme was 'Displacement, Migration, Movement,. 12 events were hosted between 10-14 October 2022 over five days. The festival was a hybrid with seven events held in person, five online events and two exhibitions over the duration of the week. The sold-out Flagship event 'One World on the Move, was held in The Accidental Theatre on Thursday 13 October at 7pm. Attendance was high at all events with 2,231 recorded to have attended over the five days. Press coverage included an article in the Irish News, and UNANI promoted the Festtval on BBC Radio Ulster. Great social media presence was recorded with 415,003 reach across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in the run up to and duration of the festival. Additionally, Q Radio ads were successful with 64 spots across 13 days. An extensive external review of the One World Festival wvas completed in June 2022 by Clare Cuthbert from Blue Moss, following three years of successful festivals. This review was extremely positive and reinforced the value of the festival to member agencies and the desire for the festival to continue to develop and growly annually.

Additional resources are recommended to enable future development. Internal systems could be improved, specifically monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, enabling evidence based evaluation of future festivals levents. The review stated that CADA Nl is to be commended for establishing and continuing to deliver a unique and valued festival, with 2022 providing a post-covid opportunity for re-invigoration and further development. There were several key areas of improvement identified, which the One World Festival endeavoured to implement into One World Festival 2023: SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE FESTIVAL REVIEW: Agree on the model of future festival delivery and festival duration. Ensure future festivals programme a wide range of events. Encourage organisers to consider hybrid presentation of events as relevant to their event content and context. Provide training for CADA members and festival organisers and provide the small grant resource to smaller organisations to enable them to explore a hybrid event approach. Clarify the fEagship event purpose and intended audience for increased relevance and impact. Seek increased opportunities for non CADA Nl organisations to engage with the festival as hostslcontributorslevent organisers. Review attendee and organiser evaluation mechanisms. Emphasise the importance of assessing events and their impact and include organiser and attendee evaluation as a mandatory aspects of festival engagement. In consultation with RV (website developer and design company), clarify festival programme & website design appearance approach. Encourage CADA Nl member organisations to promote festival events, beyond their own. Increase and diversify festival funding. In consultation with website design company, explore centralised ticketing options. Ensure fit for purpose monitoring and evaluation infomiation systems. Encourage event organisers to have explicit consideration of festival intended outcomes and objectives. TrAINING CADA approached NICVA (Nl Council for Voluntary Action) about how to provide the best, varied and bespoke training for our members. We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with NICVA. which means we are sharing their training calendar in our newsletter each month and that we can request bespoke training sessions, based on need within the sector. This is an efficient and cost-saving partnership, which ensures broad variety of training opportunities are available and delivered by the most qualified and professional training services provider. DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION, PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY The Development Education, Public Engagement and Advocacy sub-committee organised an online event on 9 November, 'Global Citizenship Education {GCE) Session.. Neknorking and Good Practice, with IDEA. The event was well attended with 12 attendees. The cross learning was very worthwhile with very engaged participants and the quick fire evaluation response was extremely positive.
Docusign Envelope ID: 6884E708-EAOD_423A_8D92_DE8AE7E05111 COALITION OF AID & DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES NORTHERN IRELAND (CADA NI) REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2022 FUNDING CADA continues to be hugely appreciative to Bond and the UK Alliance for funding through the FCDO for the CADA Development Officer role, which is essential to supporting and engaging with our members through the One World Festival and through training and other support. In April 2022 our Development Officer resigned to move to a new permanent full time position outside of the sector. This was a great loss for the Coalition and impeded our ability to develop and extend our support to our member organisations. CADA is also very grateful for the continued support of Concern Worldwide for their grant towards the delivery and promotion of the One World Festival, withoLrt which we would not be able to produce the festival resources and promote the festival as widely as we do. It is essential that we continue to maintain our Development Officer post to enable the successful operation of CADA. Our priority in 2023 is to seek an extension of funding, new funding opportunities, and develop more sustainable funding streams for CADA activities including the One World Festival. NEW MEMBER In 2022 we were delighted to welcome a new member to the Coalition, The Le ros Mission Nl. This brings the number of member agencies to 20. We look forward to working with, and alongside, The Leprosy Mission in the years to come. LOOKING TO 2023 We continue to live in unprecedented, challenging times. Whilst we return to in person events, a life without masks or restrictions, it is clear that life will never quite be the same. The Coalition realises that we must embrace these changes, acknowledging that a hybrid working pattern with online meetings can reduce our carbon footprint and offer more inclusivity to those who are hard to reach. It offers us the opportunity for unheard voices to be heard, sometimes for the first time. However, we acknowledge that much of the human interaction that we have been missing. is not easily reclaimed. As we look to future engagement we must ensure that we are mindful of the atmosphere of the world emerging from this devastation of the Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst negotiating these post-pandemic challenges and opportunities, it is clear new issues are emerging, such as the cost-of-living crisis and the consequences of climate change. These issues have interconnected global and local ramffications. It remains the challenge for CADA members to bridge the local and global, educating and engaging locally, whilst delivering global solutions, aid and development. The world is becoming more aware of many ongoing conflicts, not only in Ukraine, but also in Yemen and Sudan. These conflicts not only result in human suffering, but have global consequences as we see influxes of refugees and impact on food supplies to affected areas. In these darkest of situations, we are in no doubt that member agencies will continue to work tirelessly to deliver aid, support and lrfe- saving care across the globe. It is more important than ever that CADA reflects and amplifies the volS of our members to speak with one voice to counteract the narrative that issues outside of Northern Ireland are 'not our problem,. We have a responsibility to educate and infomi how the situation across the globe impacts on us all locally. as seen when energy prices soared due the ongoing war in Ukraine.

As we represent the international development sector we will ensure that we are heard, that the impact of cuts and the government policies are challenged. Finally, we look forward to more engagement, more interaction with our members, as we look to write our CADA strategy for the future. We invite you to read and participate in our newsletters, training and events. We look forward to seeing our members more in person and online throughout 2023. 'Alone we can do so little,. together we can do so much., Helen Keller PUBLIC BENEFIT CADA Nl fosters collaboration between international development NGOS working in Northern Ireland and with their networks in Ireland and the rest of the UK. CADA Nl works to raise awareness of international development issues in Nl and to coordinate the activities of its member organisations to maximise the use of resources in the sector. This work is completed through organising public events and meetings of a variety of staff working for member organisations. CADA Nl also provides information about funding and networking opportunities with potential funders. CADA Nl acts as a liaison between its members and UK, Irish and Eu-based international development networks to promote information sharing. The trustees of CADA Nl have considered the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that the activities entered into during the year have helped to achieve the objectives of CADA Nl as well as providing public benefit. FINANCIAL REVIEW As of 31st December 2022 CADA Nl had a positive balance with the First Trust bank of £40,615. In 2022, CADA'S total income was £38,954, from members, fees (£3,718), grants (£35,226) and mIslIaneOuS income (£10) with expenditure of £22,574 resulting in a net contribution of £16.380. A significant part of our 2022 expenditure was on our CADA Development Officer (part-time) salary (£6.230) to support the delivery of the One World Festival, training and other events during 2022. One World Festival expenditure included the updating of the festival website, running of online events. producing and promoting the festival programme and consultancy (for communications and media support). Other 2022 expenditure included website fees, online training events, bank fees, producing charity accounts and staff expenses. Costs for CADA meetings, including for training events, were minimal as all meetings moved to online or were held at member organisations premises. Grant income in 2022 included £25,487 from BOND as part of the Civil Society Collective Programme funded by DFID UK Aid and £9,738.68 from Concern Worldwide. The BONDIDFID UK Aid and Concern Worldwide grants were restricted grants. Our thanks for our funders for their support for the development of CADA Nl and the delivery of our training and events programme in 2022. Other income received in 2022 was members, fees (£3,718) and miscellaneous income (£10).
