The trustees present the annual report and accounts for the Bishops, Appeal INI) Ltd for the year ended
31 December 2023.

Charitable Objeds
111 to secure public benefit through the provlslon of support by means of financial assistance to charitable
projects for the relief of sickness, relief of poverty and advancement of education among people in
developing countrie5 and for the protection and preservation of health among such people,.
121 to support the charitable work of the Church of Ireland Bishops, Appeal for World Development,. and
131 to educate people in Ireland Ilncluding those who wish to volunteer in charitable and overseas

Bishops, Appeal INI) Ltd col lect5 money In Church of Ireland parishes and contrlbutes through established
relief agencies working in the developing world to projects consonant with the charitable purp05e5 of the
Bishops, Appeal INI) Ltd and the Bishops, Appeal World Development Fund. The organisation also raises
awareness and educates people in Northern Ireland regarding the challenges facing impoverished people
in developing countries. The Blshops Appeal monitors the impacts of its efforts and reports these to the
members ofthe Church.
In 2023, 81shops' Appeal Nl raised £159,482 through parish fundraising. Bishops, Appeal Nl Contributed this
sum to the 8ishops' Appeal tommittee of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland whlch Is a registered
¢harlty In the Republlc of Ireland sharlng the same charitable purpose and object5.

Bishops, Appeal received a tremendou5 wave of donatlons In support of humanitarian appeals for those
Impacted by the February 2023 Earthquake in Syria and Turkey and further funds were ralsed with Advent
and Christmas appeals to 5UPPOrt those displaced by the conflict in Gaza. The ongoing Humanitarian Appeal
for Ukraine continued to receive valuable donations, which among other support provided stoves to
provide heat and cooking facilitie5 through Habitat for Humanity partners in the region.

encouraging and enablin8 girls to attend school in Uganda through Fields of Life.
Blshops, Appeal supported farmers in Malawi through Christian Ald out Df extreme poverty by
helping them develop sustainable Ilvelihoods and increase thelr financial and nutritSonal
resilience.
Bishop5' Appeal Supported a project partnering with The Lepr05y Misslon to Improve the health,
wellbeing, social inclusion & financial resilience of people in Bangladesh from remote, forgotten,
'leprosy hotspots, of extreme poverty whlch have some of the world's highest leprosy rates,
leaving thousand5 of people at rlsk of a lifetime of intense suffering, disability & exclusion.

A Mother5, Union Ilteracy project In 8urundl whlth not only provldes local women wlth essentlal
skills to flourlsh In dally Ilfe, but also enables participants to read their bible5 themselves.
A Feed the Mlnds project in Madagascar, supportlng people affected by clirnite change to build
sustainable silk productlon buslnesses rather than further erodlng the natural resources.
Publlc Beneflt
Public benefit was delivered to the recipients of assistance in the projects supported through the oversight
of the Agencles runnlng these project5. No instance of harm was recorded In the dellvery of these benefits.
The public benefits delivered during 2023 included the advancement of education, rellef of poverty and the
advancement of health. In addition, Bishops, Appeal representative5 were present at a number of meetings
in Ireland to provide development education andlor to increase awareness of global justice issues and
needs. The Education Advisor participated in a number of other awareness-raising culminating in
representlng the work of the Bishops, Appeal at the General Synod of 2023. All of the Agencies through
whom the Bi5hop5' Appeal work5 have confirmed safeguarding policies in respect of children and vulnerable
adults. 8ishops' Appeal INI) Limited ha5 given careful consideration to the Charlty Commlssion for Northern
Ireland's guidance on public benefit to ensure that the artives entered into during the year have helped to
achieve the Appeal's objectives and activitles, as well as providing public benefit.

Going Concern
The Directors are satlsfied that the Blshops, Appeal INII Ltd will continue as a golng concern. They have
reviewed the Bishops, Appeal goals for the year ahead and are satisfied that adequate funds will bè
available to ensure that the Bishops, Appeal can continue its activities and the financial Statements for the
year end 2023 can be signed off as a going concern,

the charity.

Director5 of 8ishops' Appeal INI) Ltd are elected from the membership of the Blshops, Appeal Advlsory
Commlttee, whlch Is, In turn, elected by the General Synod of the Church of Ireland,

Oryanlsotlonalstrurture
The Bishops, Appeal INI) Ltd raise5 fund5 from parishes In Northern Ireland and works together with the
Bishops, Appeal Advisory Committee to direct those funds to projects in accord with its charitable purposes
throu8h agencies working In the field. The Directors are responsible for ensurlng the proper recording and
adrnini5tration of funds raised and for reporting on the activities and flnances to Companies House Belfast
and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. The chalr of the Directors is elected by the Director5'.
The Director's meet regularly during the year (generally 6 -8 time5 annually). Special meetings may be
convened at any tlme by the chairperson,
