operations of the or8anisation. The l8rget minimum reserve fund has been identified as £60.(KK) which ensures
that the Core activity of Killean PlaY￿0Up Ltd could continuc during a penod of unfor¢seen drfficulty in relation
to the sa18ries, day to day TunninB and in the evajt of redundancies.
A prowrtion of these T￿erVeS have to be maintained in a readily realisable fi)rni. Fundraising will continue on 8
year to y¢8r basis.

The trustees. who are directors for the purposes of company law. present the annual report logether with the
financial slalements of the charitable company for the year ended 31 Augusl 2022.
Objeelives and activities
As per the constilulion. the company's objectives and activities are specifically restricted to the following: to
promote play based learning environments for all children under statutory school age (hereinafter referred to as
the beneficiaries) of Killean and its surrounding greaier ward area (hereinafter Called the 'area of benefit")
without distinction of agpe, gender, marital siaius. disability. Sexual orientation. nationality. ethnic identity,
polilical or religious opinion, by associating the stiilulory authorities, community and voluntary orgyanisalions
and Ihe inhabitants in a common etTort to advance education. and in particular.
(a) to advance the education of the beneficiaries by the provision of safe and satisfying group play, with the
right of parenis/carers to take responsibility tor and to becom¢ involved in the activities of che group and to
pi'omole the preservation of health of the beneficiarie5;
(b) lo support the vision and values of Early Years- Ihe organisation for young children (hereinafter called 'Early
Years,).
(c) lo advance any other exclusively charitable purpose as the directors may, from time to time, decide in
accordance with the law of charity.
The playgroup is open Monday to Friday - 9,00 to 12.30 and employs 4 qualified staff. It provides a facility
wl)ere the children can learn in a safe and stimulating environment at their own pace. The playgroup works 10
provide the pre-school curriculum and is proud lo have been recognised by Early Years with an Accrediation. In
setting our objectives and planning our activities for the year Ihe Irusiees have &)iven careful consideration to the
Charity Commission lor Nonhern Ireland's gFuidance on public benefit to ensure ihat the activities have helpLd
to achieve the charity's purpose5 and provide a benefil to the ben¢ficiaries.

I'he School reopened after Covid-19 rvslrictions in Siptember ?020. After a difficult few months of workin¥
from home and keeping7 in touch wilh parents and children virtually. this wa5 a welcome reli¢f.
Objeciives include gelling children back to a nornial routine and enhancing learning and development througyh
face to face teaching,
Going eoncern
Managiement have considered a period of ai least 12 months from the date of approval of these financial
statemen15 as part of their assessinenl of the appropriateness of the byoing concern assumption. and have
concluded that Ihe going concern basis is appropriate.
The effect of Covid-19 in 2020 has not created any doubt on the ability of the company to continue. Being a
childcare facility. the premises were instructed to close but the company 15 SUPPOrted by the Department of
Education and has sufficient reserves lo meet ils financial oblig?ation5.

Killean Playgroup is a company limited by guarantee and accepted as charitable by HMRC. The company is
also a registered charity witb The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland ￿der charity number 101320. Tbe
rnpany was incorporated on 22nd Febnwy 2011. The company was established under a Memoranduo] of
Association which esthblished the objects and powers of the compally, 8nd is governed by its Articles of
As'sociation. The liability of the members is limited in that every member of the company undertak¢s to
contribute and amount not exceeding £1 in the event of the Company being wound up.
Recruilrnent and Appointment of Directors
The Gkwity In￿tee$ are also directors of the coukpany. There were no ¢hanges to the Dir￿lorS during the
fmancial year.
Organisalion Srncture
The Board consists of four Trustees who administer the playgroup and meet monthly. The B0￿d has 8ppoinled
Play8roup Leader to manage the day-t041ay operations of the Playgroup. The Playgroup leader has delegated
authority, within tern)s of delegated 8pproval. for operational matters including staff supervisiory d¢￿'Very of
Playgroup activities and bud8etary management. The Playgroup is a￿llIated to the Early Years or88nisation 8nd
orks very closely with their Early Years Specialist to ensure that staff are up-to-date with policy and practice
within the ￿tOr. Staff also Und￿ake regular trainitig.

2 Accounting policies
Summary of significant accounting policies and key accounting estimates
The principal accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial sialements are set out below.
These policies have been consistently applied io all the years presented. unless otherwise stated.
Statement of compliance
These finaTicial statements have been prepared in accordance FRS102, 'The Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland,. the Statement of Recommended Praciice applicable to
charities preparing their iiccounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Siandard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland (FRSIO?) (Charities SORP (FRS102)), the Charities Act (Northem Ireland) 2008 and
Companies Act 2006.
Basis of preparation
KSLLEAN PLAYGROUP LIMITED meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and
liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless Otherwise stated in the relevant
accounting policy noies.
Going concern
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going
concern nor any significanl areas of uncertainty that affect the carrying valLse of assets held by the charity.
Income and endowments
All income is recognised once the charity has entitlement to the income, il is probable that the income will be
received and the amount of Ihe income receivable can be measured reliably.

Donations are recognised when the charity has been notified in writing of both the amount and settlement date.
In the event that a donation is subjeci lo conditions that require a level of performanLe by the charity before the
charity is entitled lo the funds. the income is deferred and not recognised until either those conditions are fully
met. or the fulfilment of those conditions is wholly within the conirol of the charity and il is probable that these
condilions will be fulfilled in the reponing period.
LebFacy gifts are recognised on a case by case basis following the grant of probate when the
administratorlexecutor for the esiate has communicaied in writing both the amount and settlement date. In the
event that the gift is in the form of an asset other than cash or a financial asset traded on a recognised stock
exchange, recobJnition is subjecl to the value of the gift beinb) reliably measurdble with a degree of reasonable
accuracy and the title lo th¢ assLi having been transferred io the charity.

Granls are recognised when the charity has an entitlement to the funds 8nd any condilioiis linked to Ihe grants

Government grants
Government g?rants are recognised based on the accrual model and are measured at the fair value of the asset
received or receivable. Grants are classified as relating either to revenue or to assets. Grant5 relating to revenue
are recogni5ed in income over the period in which the related costs are recognised. Grants relating to assets are
recognised over the expected useful life of the assei. Where part ot. a grant relating to an asset is deferred, it is
reLognised as deferred income.
Taxation
Tlie charity is considered lo pass the tests set out in Paragraph I Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010 and
therefore it nieets the detiniiion of a charitable Col￿panY for UK corporation tax purposes. Accordingly. the
liarity is potentially exenipt from taxation in respect of income or Lapital gains reLeived wiihin caleg?ories
covered by Chapter 3 Part I l of the Corporation Tax Act 201 O or Section 256 of the Taxation of Charbieable
Gains Act 1992, to the extent that such income or gain5 are applied exclusively to charitable purposes.

Individual fixed assets costing £ 100.00 or more are initially recorded ai cost. less any subsequent accumulated
depreciation and subsequent accumulated iinpairmeni losses.

Borrowings
Interest-bearing borrowings are initially recorded at fair value, net of transaction costs. Inter¢5t-bearing
borrowings are subsequently carried at amortised cost, witli th¢ difference betw¢en ihe proceeds. net of
transaction costs, and the amount due on redemption being recognised as a charge to the Statement of Financial
Activities over the period of the relevant borrowing.
Interest expense is recognised on the basis of the effective interest method and is included in interest payable
and similar charges.
Borrowings are classified as current liabilities unless the charity has an unconditional right to def¢r settlement of
the liability for al least twelve months after the reportingy date,
Foreign exchange
Transactions in foreign currencies are recorded al the rale of exchange at the date of the transaction. Monetary
assels and liabililies denominated in for¢i&rn currencies al the bal¢ince shcel date are reported at the rates of
e¥change prevailing at thal date.
The resu115 of overseas operations are translated al the average rates of exchange during the period and their
balance sheels at the raies ruliiigJ at the balance sheet dale. Exchangye differences arising on translation of the
opening nel assets and results of overseas operations are reported in other comprehensive income and
accumulated in equity (attributed to non-controlling inierests a5 appropriale).
Other exchange differences are recognised in the Statemeni of Financial Activities in the period in which they
ai'ise except for:
l ) exchange differences on transactions entered into to hedge certain foreign QU￿enCY risks (see above).
2) exchange differences arising on gains or losses on non-monetary items which are recognised in other
comprehensive income. and
3) in the case of the consolidated tinancial statements, exchange difference5 on monetary items receivable from
or payable to a forei&in operation for which settlement is neither planned nor likely io OCCLir (therefore forming
part of the net investment in the foreign operalion), which are reco¥nised in other comprehcnsive income and
reported under equity.

Restricted income funds are those donaled for use in a particular area or for specific purposes, the use of which
